Suzi Kory Debuts ‘My Corona’, The Antivirus Song

By David Farrell

Ladies and gentlemen... If you are facing any concerns about drinking Corona beer, please watch and share this video... Cheers!!!

So reads the intro to Torontonian singer Suzi Kory’s latest venture, a song posted Wednesday to various online platforms including YouTube. The lo-fi, budget-conscious satirical piece was written on a whim and shot in a bar earlier this week.

“You know what? It is what it is. I’m not talking about the virus per se, I’m talking about the funny part about Corona beer,” the singer relays in a phone call on Wednesday.

“The idea behind it…? I didn’t want to overcomplicate the idea because it was something funny that I was trying to do, so I originally went to a Beer Store and asked them if it would be OK to shoot there and was told it was not a good idea. I then asked if they could turn a blind eye to what we were planning and was again turned down (as part of its general policy). Then I thought of a bar in (suburban) Etobicoke called The Crooked Cue that hosts a lot of events, so I texted the owner for approval and got the go-ahead to shoot in the day and we went there Wednesday (March 11) with my guitarist, Jeff Brown. As it turns out the drummer in my band, Jonny Diano, was there as well and I had him shoot it on my iPhone.”

As a side note, Diano, along with partner AJ Astle, has a video production company called Roadhouse Productions which is credited with the shoot.

Kory says it took “maybe 15 minutes in the car to write the song” and on Wednesday she posted it to Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn and YouTube.

“I posted it on LinkedIn so I could tag the company that owns Corona,” she said over the phone. “You never know what might come of this,” she confides.

It’s a short-form song video that is topical and adds a light touch to a newsworthy subject that is creating ongoing concern. Kory’s also adding a bit of froth to a brand that unwittingly has become part of the news cycle in the Spring of 2020. So uncap a bottle and give a ‘cheers’ shoutout to a gal with a song a the right time to make us all smile.
