Indigenous Artist Aysanabee Rises on Billboard Canada Modern Rock Airplay Chart with 'Home'

Aysanabee is climbing the charts.

His newest track, “Home,” rises on Billboard Canada’s Modern Rock Airplay chart, hitting No. 22, after three weeks on the ranking.

From his new record, Edge of Earth (Ishkōdé Records) the track finds its rich and soulful groove with angelic backing vocals, capturing the instant between what has been and what could be. On “Home,” Aysanabee pivots around points of no return, irrevocable breaks after which life will never be the same.

For the artist, accolades aren't new. Last year, the Toronto-based Oji-Cree singer-songwriter took home two Juno Awards, including alternative album of the year for his 2023 EP, Here and Now, and songwriter of the year for three tracks: "Alone," "Here and Now,” and "Somebody Else." His 2022 project, Watin, was short-isted for 2023's Polaris Music Prize.

In the fall, Aysanabee will embark on his first headline tour across the country. During the 18-date trek, Indigenous artists are invited to

share the stage with the singer at each stop along the way.

On the Mainstream Rock chart, long-running rock band Headstones climbed one spot to No. 2 with their City and Colour featured track, “Navigate.”

After the long-standing Canadian rockers signed with Dine Alone Records in April, they shared the new single featuring their new labelmate and Juno Award-winning musician. It’s accompanied by a performance music video filmed at Dine Alone's Toronto headquarters.

The quintessential rock song sits below Three Day Grace’s “Apologies,” which hit No. 1 last week.

While homegrown artists are rising on the airplay charts, there are minimal debuts. Country group James Barker Band hits the Canada Country chart with “Somebody I Know” at No. 55, and “Adore You” by indie rockers Yukon Blonde arrives at No. 50 on Mainstream Rock.

At the top of the radio charts, Alex Warren’s “Ordinary” continues to dominate four charts at No. 1: All-Format, AC, Canada CHR/Top 40 and Hot AC. The song is a long-time leader on the Billboard Canadian Hot 100, hitting 15 weeks. Just shy of the top spot, at No. 2, includes Benson Boone’s “Sorry I’m Here For Someone Else,” on All-Format and CHR/Top 40. Ed Sheeran’s “Azizam” and Chappell Roan’s “Pink Pony Club” sit below the top spot on AC and Hot AC, respectively.

American country star Tyler Hubbard climbs to No. 1 with “Park” on Country, while the aforementioned Three Days Grace’s “Apologies” sits at No. 1 for a second week on Mainstream Rock. On Modern Rock, “Last Girls At The Party” from Toronto band The Beaches notches an eighth week.
