Katy Perry is learning about Canadian geography.

Currently on the Canadian leg of her Lifetimes tour, the pop singer brought fan Braiden Palumbo on stage during her July 22 show at Vancouver’s Rogers Arena. When she asked where Palumbo was from, Perry was introduced to the city of Medicine Hat, Alberta. Her face depicted utter confusion, which elicited laughs from the concert-goers.

"I'm sorry, I need to study better geography. What did you say?" Perry asked, before Palumbo repeated his answer, and the singer proceeded to say "Medicine Hat” a couple more times, to which 20-year-old Palumbo responded, “Correct.”

Still in confusion, Perry asked: "Your hats are filled with medicine?” She isn’t totally wrong. Medicine Hat is derived from the Blackfoot word "saamis," an eagle tail headdress worn by medicine men in group legends.

Perry interpreted the city’s meaning differently, adding: "Well, you know, for us Americans, you are our medicine hats." She went on to inquire about what Palumbo does in Medicine Hat, and he had to explain his job at a co-op gas bar.

Perry's love for Canada runs deep. After last week’s shows in Vancouver, Edmonton and Winnipeg, Perry will take the stage across the country with dates in Ottawa on July 29, Montreal on July 30 and Quebec City on August 1. The pop singer will conclude the Canadian leg with two shows at Toronto’s Scotiabank Arena on August 5 and 6.

She explained in a 2024 MuchMusic interview that she wanted to honour the fan dedication across the country. "Some people just go to Toronto or Vancouver and I'm like no," she said. "We gotta go to Ottawa, we gotta go to Edmonton, we gotta go to Quebec — not just Montreal!"

She continued: "The Canadian fans have been incredible and I've been on this journey with them for a long time, so I owe it to them."
