LIGHTS Shines on the Billboard Canadian Modern Rock Airplay Chart With 'Alive Again'

Canadian acts John Fellner, Dallas Smith and Redhill Valleys also notch new airplay chart debuts, while Cameron Whitcomb climbs to No. 2 on the All Format chart with "Quitter."

LIGHTS is brightening up the airplay charts this week.

The Canadian alt-pop artist debuts on the Modern Rock chart dated April 19 with "Alive Again" at No. 40. The single comes from her upcoming LP A6 out May 2 and it's powered by an undeniably punchy new wave energy.


The track finds LIGHTS reflecting on her demons and reaching out to a stranger, seeking relief. She sings low on the verses and contrasts that with yelled choruses: "this might be the night that I die / and I don't want to die alone."

Apocalyptic visions are a theme in pop music lately. Miley Cyrus' new Alvvays-penned single, "End of the World," which enters on three Canadian airplay charts this week, imagines a lover at the end of the world.

Two decades into her career, LIGHTS still knows how to tap into the moment — "Alive Again" pulses with the desire to feel something, anything, amidst disaster.

Also on the Modern Rock chart, Canadian alt-rocker Ruby Waters hits a new peak with "Sour Patch," moving up 7-6 in its 19th week in the chart.

Over on Canada Country, a couple of Canadian artists have new entries. Dallas Smith and Alexandra Kay enter at No. 43 with "How Do You Miss Me," while the Redhill Valleys arrive at No. 55 with "One Headlight." Jade Eagleson's "Worth the Double" moves up 22-21 on that chart and enters on the All-Format chart at No. 44.

And on the CHR/Top 40 chart, London, Ontario singer-songwriter John Fellner debuts "Broke Skin" at No. 32.

At the top of the charts, Gracie Abrams' holds onto No. 1 on All-Format with "That's So True," and Canadian folk-pop singer Cameron Whitcomb hits a peak at No. 2 with "Quitter." Myles Smith's "Stargazing" reigns at No. 1 on AC, as does Chappell Roan's "Pink Pony Club" on CHR/Top 40.

ROSE and Bruno Mars' "APT." continues to lead Hot AC, and Blake Shelton's "Texas" is in charge on Canada Country. Papa Roach's "Even If It Kills Me" dethrones Three Days Grace on Mainstream Rock and Mumford & Sons "Rushmere" leads Modern Rock.

Avril Lavigne headlined the gargantuan main stage on the historic Plains of Abraham in Quebec City on Friday night (July 4) for more than 80,000 fans, which also coincided with the final date of her Greatest Hits tour with fellow Canadians Simple Plan.
