Justin Timberlake Celebrates the 20th Anniversary of ‘FutureSex/LoveSounds’: ‘Life Changing’
The singer is shining a spotlight on his sophomore solo album.

Justin Timberlake is looking back on one of the most transformative albums of his career.
The pop star celebrated the 20th anniversary of his sophomore solo album, FutureSex/LoveSounds, on Tuesday (Sept. 8) with an Instagram carousel featuring two photos: one of Timberlake shattering a disco ball with a mallet (presumably from the original album photo shoot), as well as the album’s track listing. There is also an archival video of a young Timberlake sitting between both photos in the carousel. The singer captioned the post simply, “Life changing. THANK YOU.”
In the brief video, Timberlake appears to tease the project’s significance, saying, “Big disclaimer. This is not what you’re used to.”
Released on Sept. 8, 2006, FutureSex/LoveSounds was a major sonic shift for the singer following his 2002 solo debut, Justified. The album, largely produced with Timbaland and Danja, leaned into electronic, funk, R&B and pop influences while establishing a more experimental sound for the former *NSYNC member.
The album also made lots of noise on the Billboard charts. FutureSex/LoveSounds debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, giving Timberlake his first solo leader on the chart. The record’s lead single, “SexyBack,” likewise became Timberlake’s first solo Billboard Hot 100 No. 1, spending seven weeks atop the chart. “My Love” and “What Goes Around…Comes Around” followed, giving the album three consecutive Hot 100 No. 1s.
