Talk about the Call of Cthulhu — or in this case, CAThulhu! Deadmau5 shared in an Instagram post on Tuesday (June 16), that he’s adding a fourth feline member to his family — and during Adopt a Cat Month at that.

“Went to visit the kitties today, looks like dizzy and dolly and peanut got a new roommate coming after the weekend,” the electronic artist captioned a carousel post featuring a photo of an adorably grumpy-looking 3-year-old tabby named Cathulhu, as well as a video of the kitty rolling around as deadmau5 reached his fingers into the kennel to give him scritches. (Dizzy, Dolly and Peanut are the cats deadmau5 currently has at home.)

Commented Leah Sems, deadmau5’s content director, on the post: “New king of the castle!”

The artist born Joel Zimmerman was visiting the Humane Society of Oakville, Milton & Halton in Ontario, Canada. After the shelter made a plea on May 27 for funds after rescuing 27 felines in need of medical care, the producer quickly met its request for $30,000, and is now taking one of them home.

After making the donation, the cat-loving artist — who recently wrapped his participation in Gumball 3000 and shared exclusive photos with Billboard — made a post to his Patreon on June 7 asking fans to help name the nearly 30 cats, of which he shared pictures. No. 3 was a gorgeous male tabby with elegantly curled white whiskers, which led some followers to suggest the name Cathulhu. “The crazy whiskers make perfect tentacles and those ears look like the wings!” wrote one, referencing H.P. Lovecraft’s creepy entity cthulhu. Days later, in a separate Patreon post revealing all the new kitty monikers, deadmau5 confirmed that No. 3 had indeed been named Cathulhu.

Even before announcing the adoption of Cathulhu, deadmau5 recently hinted that adding one more furry friend to his family was a possibility. He told local news site InsideHamilton shortly after donating to help the 27 cats: “I might take one — because I’m a sucker.”

The dance music titan has never been shy about his love for cats and preference for adopting from animal shelters. In a 2025 interview with Billboard about his beloved late cat Professor Meowingtons and current kitties Peanut, Dizzy and Dolly, deadmau5 — who often works with the Toronto Humane Society — explained why it was important to him to adopt his pets.

“There’s just such an influx of [cats] that end up getting removed from the home or whatever, and then they’re off in the streets eating whatever and being cats, and then you have these litters of kittens and no one can look after them. They don’t all make it, and that’s a bummer,” he said at the time. “I make it a point to adopt versus getting that handcrafted rare cat as a showpiece, because I think rescues are … somewhere in their little, tiny brains, they know [you saved them].”
