Album Of The Week: Shawn Hook, Beauty In Surrender

Multi-platinum-selling BC pop hitmaker Shawn Hook returns to the spotlight with a new EP, Beauty In Surrender, out today (June 28), via Infinity & Records/UMG. The follow-up to 2020 EP, Take Me Home, it emerges from the personal ordeal of facing tonsil cancer, now in remission. “Releasing new music after overcoming cancer puts this release on another level. Not being able to sing after my treatment was a realistic outcome,” says Hook. “I had to surrender to what was in front of me and let go of everything that defined me to that point in my life. I found light in the darkest moment of my life.”

“Bigger Than The Night” showcases Hook’s skill at creating widescreen pop with a big emotional impact, while "Magic," is more upbeat, and sports a danceable groove. Over the course of a career now spanning three albums and three EPs, Hook has scored such major hits as "Reminding Me” (with Vanessa Hudgens) and “Sound of Your Heart” (both certified double platinum), plus three Juno Award nominations, and the Allan Slaight Music Impact Honour from Canada’s Walk of Fame.

Drake Files Second Action Against UMG, Alleging Defamation Over Kendrick Lamar’s ‘False’ Song

The new filing, which claims UMG potentially "funneled payments" to iHeartRadio as part of a "pay-to-play scheme," sheds new light on the blockbuster dispute.

Drake has launched a second bombshell legal action against Universal Music Group over Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us,” accusing the music giant of defamation and claiming it could have halted the release of a song “falsely accusing him of being a sex offender.”

A day after filing an action in New York accusing UMG of illegally boosting Lamar’s track on Spotify, Drake’s company leveled similar claims in Texas court regarding radio giant iHeartRadio. The new filing, filed late Monday and made public on Tuesday, claims UMG potentially “funneled payments” to iHeart as part of a “pay-to-play scheme” to promote the song on radio.
