There are some new Canadian albums coming your way post-Canada Day weekend. Folk favourite Romi Mayes delivers a new album, Blue Rodeo keyboardist Mike Boguski takes the spotlight with another solo effort, seasoned rock 'n rollers Mr! Mouray return and there is new work from Toronto Latin singer-songwriter Amanda Martinez.

In the next six weeks, meanwhile, some of Canada's brightest new talents from across the country are putting out keenly-awaited releases. Winnipeg R&B/pop singer-songwriter Begonia has a powerful voice, and people are now taking notice. Her next album,  Open Swim, arrives on July 17, little more than a year after her acclaimed and Juno-nominated second album, Powder Blue. Begonia won a Juno with her earlier group, Chic Gamine, and this could bring similar honours.

Her fellow Manitoban, Boy Golden (aka Liam Duncan) delivers his new album, For Eden, on July 19, and he has also been making waves with his vibrant indie folk sound. We're informed that "the album’s origins — analog and off-the-grid — speak to the more personal, self-reflective mood of the collection." A breakout performance at the AmericanaFest conference last fall led to a signing with talent giant WME. Boy Golden will be promoting the album via an extensive cross-country tour later this year.

After earning attention in the duo Milk & Bone, Montreal singer-songwriter-film composer KROY (Camille Poliquin) has gone solo, and her new album, Militia, is released on Aug. 16. Expect dark pop melodies on this one. More info here.

Country music maverick Orville Peck returns with his new album, Stampede, arriving on Aug. 2. It will be backed by the muscle of Warner Records, the major label he jumped to from Sub Pop. The record will include Peck's much-talked about duet with Willie Nelson on "Cowboys Are Frequently Secretly Fond of Each Other," a track featured in our Fresh Sounds series recently.
