Drake Was Spotify's Most Streamed Artist in Canada in 2025
Spotify Wrapped's year-end data also reveals Canada's most-streamed albums and songs of the year. The streaming service has also released lists of the top Franco-Quebec music, which features Charlotte Cardin, Les Cowboys Fringants and more.
This year’s Spotify Wrapped has arrived.
As the streaming service’s popular marketing campaign takes over social media, the platform is unveiling new data about its Canadian artists.
Spotify shared the top artists streamed in Canada, with rapper Drake taking the top spot, followed by Taylor Swift and Morgan Wallen. Scarborough native The Weeknd comes in at No. 4, while Drake's rival Kendrick Lamar ranks at No. 5. Two spots down at No. 7 is Canadian pop singer Tate McRae.
Despite Drizzy accusing the streaming service of contributing to an illegal “scheme” involving bots, payola and other methods to push Lamar’s diss track “Not Like Us,” the Toronto rapper has maintained a spot at the top of listeners’ playlists. While Drake has only released three solo singles this year — rumoured to be a part of his forthcoming Iceman project — the trio of tracks have all hit the Billboard Canadian Hot 100, including “What Did I Miss” at No. 2, “Which One?” featuring U.K. rapper Central Cee at No. 4 and “Dog House” featuring recent Billboard Canada Woman of the Year Global Rising Star honouree Julia Wolf, at No. 86.
As always, The Weeknd has fared well on Spotify, reclaiming the No. 1 spot of top monthly listeners, which was followed by his hit “Blinding Lights” surpassing five billion streams on the platform. At the beginning of the year, the Canadian superstar released Hurry Up Tomorrow, the third and final installment of his After Hours/Dawn FM trilogy — the album hit No. 1 on the Billboard Canadian Albums chart after its release.
Pop it-girl McRae has become a Spotify darling after being tapped as the platform’s list of the most-streamed homegrown artists in the world back in the summer. At 22, she’s reaching new highs for Canadian women, performing sold-out arena shows and hitting No. 1 in her home country for the first time earlier this year with So Close to What. Even today, McRae has maintained her place on the charts with hits like “Sports Car,” “Tit For Tat” and “Just Keep Watching,” from the F1 movie, which nabbed the superstar her first-ever Grammy nomination.
While it’s a celebration for mainstream Canadian artists, other niche-leaning musicians have left the platform, including indie singer Sarah Harmer, post-rock band Godspeed You! Black Emperor, singer-songwriter Chad VanGaalen and more, citing then-CEO Daniel Ek's investment in an AI weapons company. Ek stepped down from the streamer in mid-September.
