Drake’s ‘ICEMAN’ Becomes His Longest-Leading No. 1 Album on R&B/Hip-Hop Chart

Drake sets a new personal milestone on Billboard’s Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart as ICEMAN becomes his sole-longest leader among his 17 chart-toppers. The album claims a 13th week at No. 1 on the chart dated Sept. 5, passing Take Care’s dozen weeks in the top slot.

ICEMAN, released on OVO Sound/Republic, captures its landmark week at No. 1 with 41,000 equivalent album units earned in the United States for the Aug. 21-27 tracking week, according to Luminate. Though it declined 6% compared to its performance the week before (Aug. 14-20), it retains a 10,000-unit gap ahead of its nearest competitor, Michael Jackson’s Thriller, at No. 2 with 31,000 units.

Through ICEMAN, Drake reshuffles his leaderboard for his album with the most weeks at No. 1. His sophomore full-length, 2011’s Take Care, was his prior benchmark, with 12 weeks at the summit in 2011-12. Notably, the ranking system for Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums has changed since Drake’s career debut: Before February 2017, ranks were determined solely by album sales, while it has since evolved into ranking via equivalent album units, a multimetric measure of album sales, streaming activity and an album’s track-sales activity into one figure.

ICEMAN became Drake’s record-tying 17th No. 1 on Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums, equaling The Temptations’ count for the most among all acts in the chart’s 61-year history. (Future has since matched the mark, too.) The project includes Drake’s record-extending 31st and 32nd No. 1s on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart, “What Did I Miss?” and “Janice STFU,” respectfully. The latter spent seven weeks at No. 1 on the songs chart, the most for any Drake title since “In My Feelings” registered an 11-week domination in 2018.

Elsewhere, ICEMAN wins a 13th week at No. 1 on Top Rap Albums and holds at No. 9 on the all-genre Billboard 200.
