Charlotte Cardin is about to accept a major international honour.

The Montreal-based singer-songwriter will be celebrated as Canada's Global Woman of the Year at the star-studded Billboard Women In Music event taking place Saturday, March 29, at YouTube Theater at Hollywood Park in Inglewood, California.

Cardin made history as Billboard Canada's first-ever Woman of the Year at the first edition of Billboard Canada Women in Music in Toronto last year, where she gave a stunning solo piano ballad performance. Now, she'll represent the country on the global stage.

She will join an elite group of trailblazing women shaping the future of music.

The 2025 event will also honour aespa (Group of the Year), Ángela Aguilar (Breakthrough Award), Erykah Badu (Icon Award), GloRilla (Powerhouse Award), Gracie Abrams (Songwriter of the Year), JENNIE (Global Force Award), Megan Moroney (Rulebreaker Award presented by Crown Royal Whisky), Meghan Trainor (Hitmaker Award), Muni Long (Rising Star Award Presented by Honda Stage) and Tyla (Impact Award presented by Bose).

aespa, Aguilar, GloRilla, Abrams, Moroney, Long and Tyla will all perform at the event, while Becky G, Julia Michaels, Kali Uchis, Madison Beer, Mickey Guyton, Suki Waterhouse, Summer Walker, Tanner Adell and Zara Larsson are set as presenters. Doechii will accept the Woman of the Year award.

ANNA, named Woman of the Year by Billboard Italy at its inaugural ceremony, will be celebrated as a Global Woman of the Year for Italy.

The Global Woman of the Year award continues Cardin's upward momentum that hasn't stopped since the release of her 2023 breakthrough 99 Nights. She's been touring globally, with her success spreading from North America to Europe and all over the world. She's had 15 hits on the Billboard Canadian Hot 100, and they continue to rise.

Most recently, the infectious bilingual English-French pop hit "Feel Good" has become a social media phenomenon and hit the chart two years after its initial release.

SOCAN Sues Festival d’été de Québec (FEQ) Over Licensing Fees: Report

As the Quebec City music festival started on July 3, it was hit with a lawsuit from the performing rights organization claiming it had "failed to obtain a license from SOCAN and...not paid any royalties or submitted any report forms to SOCAN.”

The Festival d’été de Québec (FEQ) is being sued by the Society of Composers, Authors and Music Publishers of Canada (SOCAN) for copyright infringement and failure to pay royalties for approximately three years, according to a report by the National Post.

SOCAN, which is responsible for granting licences and collecting royalties on licensed music in Canada, claims in the lawsuit filed in Federal Court that since at least July 2022, the festival’s organizers “have failed to obtain a license from SOCAN and have not paid any royalties or submitted any report forms to SOCAN.”
