An eclectic grouping of new work from some noted Canadian artists was released this week.
Austra, the acclaimed electro-pop project of Toronto vocalist and composer Katie Stelmanis, just released her fifth album, Chin Up Buttercup.
The album’s name references the societal pressure to just paste on a smile and keep going, and the record was fuelled by a devastating breakup. Co-produced by Stelmanis and Kieran Adams (Diana, The Weather Station), it combines hypnotic dance floor anthems and strong melodies. Last month, Austra announced early 2026 tour dates across North America, the UK and EU. Check the itinerary here.
Acclaimed Saskatchewan country/roots singer-songwriter (and rancher) Colter Wall returns with a new album, Memories And Empties. “I wanted to make a straight-ahead country album,” he says of the record. "There’s some cowboy vernacular and western-isms that crept their way into a few of these songs, but mostly, I was pointed towards more country themes. And the sound is representative of that.” Wall just announced U.S. tour dates running from Dec. 9 to March 14.
Others serving up new releases this week include experimental artist Magella, with The Pearl, Toronto post-punk outfit Odonis Odonis, with a self-titled album, roots-rockers The Bros. Landreth, with Dog Ear, Maritime folk favourite Old Man Luedecke (a deluxe edition of She Told Me Where To Go), jazz guitarist Tim Brady (For Electric Guitar), synth-pop veterans Men Without Hats (On the Moon) and Yves Jarvis (a deluxe version of his acclaimed All Cylinders).
Those announcing upcoming release dates include Katie Tupper (Greyhound), Bedouin Soundclash leader Malinowski (Under A Landslide of Stars), Daphini aka Dan Snaith, with Butterfly, and Wintersleep (Wishing Moon).
