Dave Charles, CEO of Media RESULTS Inc., would like your thoughts and suggestions on developing a NEW playbook for radio in 2023.

Send him your thoughts and ideas directly to (dcharles@mediaresults.ca)   All ideas will be credited to the author.

These are in no way Radio’s New Year’s resolutions.  These are major commitments to getting listeners back to radio with a better product offering by making your radio format (Hip Hop, Country, Hot AC, Rock/Classic Rock, News/Talk) more relevant.

To get you started, some of my ideas revolve around the following areas.

  • Personality development for all formats. In what ways can we find and create the next generation of radio talents?

  • Developing a comprehensive digital strategy that drives audiences back to radio.

  • Intern programs for the best radio students from Seneca, Humber, Toronto Metropolitan, NAIT, SAIT, Mohawk, Fanshaw, Loyalist, and Carlton to work at local radio stations to develop their skills while being paid minimum wage.

  • Listener-driven music features. IE ‘My Radio Show’ Weekend listener created specials.

  • Mini Music documentaries. Ala Alan Cross’s ‘Continuous History of NEW music

  • A focus on using text messaging to the radio station for all contests and info. Every text gets through, whereas not every email does.

  • Getting rid of station imaging with slogans that are boring.  For example, Star Wars zips and zaps sound very dated but continue being used!

  • REAL community outreach with a live station presence.  An investment must be made here.  This requires a dedicated crew of talents to work in all neighbourhoods and be seen as part of the community they serve.  This can be sponsored to underwrite this much-needed investment.

  • Updating important News and information immediately in a rolling format.  IE PROTESTS AT YONGE & DUNDAS– AN AREA TO AVOID AT THIS HOUR…STAY TUNED AS WE UPDATE THIS SITUATION’.

  • Supporting Local Community Charities that matter.  Food drives, shelter for the homeless, ALL Lives Matter.  ‘A Day to Listen part two’ for continuous Indigenous awareness and knowledge.

What are your ideas that will make radio better in 2023 that are viable and in tune with your audiences?

Let’s make Radio better through continuous improvement.

Ontario Raises Maximum Penalty for Illegal Ticket Resale to $25,000

Ontario Premier Doug Ford calls the move a "massive win" for fans in Ontario, after imposing a ban on the resale of tickets above face value in April.

The Ontario government is once again cracking down on the ticket resale market.

The Ford government has announced that it will be raising the maximum penalty for reselling tickets above face value from $10,000 to $25,000, more than doubling the fine. The change is meant to discourage businesses and individuals from violating recent legislation in the province that caps ticket resale at face value and will take effect on June 10, just ahead of the FIFA World Cup's arrival in Toronto.
