Luminate's Midyear Music Report offered a few insights on the Top 10 albums and songs in Canada.

Canadians love Morgan Wallen and The Weeknd.

In the first half of 2025 in Canada, the country star's I’m the Problem was the most popular album, while Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars’ “Die With a Smile” was the most-streamed song (by on-demand audio streams), according to Luminate's Midyear Music Report.


The data tracking firm has released its midyear ranking, with a tracking period from January 3 to July 3, 2025. The report examines a variety of metrics, including a few insights into the Canadian music market.

In Canada, total album consumption increased 4.5%, hitting 57.2 million — up from 2024’s 54.8 million — which accounted for the period of December 29, 2023, to June 27, 2024.

Wallen’s I’m the Problem earned 231,000 equivalent album units in the first half of the year. Released May 16, the country juggernaut’s impact has reached the charts, with the album peaking at No. 1 on the Billboard Canadian Albums chart for eight weeks, only being dethroned last week by Justin Bieber’s Swag, before remerging on top this week.

Canadians fare well on the albums list, including Scarborough native The Weeknd, who has two entries. His compilation album, The Highlights, at No. 2 with 151,000 units and his 2025 record, Hurry Up Tomorrow, reaching 118,000 units at No. 7. PartyNextDoor & Drake’s $ome $exy $ongs 4 U project come in at No. 4 (133,00 units) and Gen-Z darling Tate McRae amasses 124,000 with her third studio album, So Close to What at No. 6.

Total Canadian album sales — traditional purchases of physical and digital download albums — declined by 7% to 2.2 million (down from 2.3 million in the first half of 2024). Canadian physical album sales — including vinyl, CD and cassette — increased 1% to 1.60 million (up from 1.59 million).

On-demand streaming is seeing an uptick at the midyear point, increasing 5.2% to 74.3 billion — up from 70.7 billion in the 2024 period. On top is “Die With a Smile,” a standalone single from pop icons Lady Gaga & Bruno Mars that later ended up on the former’s 2025 record, Mayhem — the track amassed 51.7 million streams.

Two Canadian mainstay artists have entries towards the bottom of the list. Drake’s “Nokia” sits at No. 8 with 40.2 million streams and The Weeknd & Playboi Carti’s “Timeless” boasts 39.5 million streams to close out the ranking at No. 10.

Outside the Ninety, at the corner of Rachel Street, crowds gathered for the live recording of several tracks from Damso's upcoming project BYH2, a potential follow-up to BĒYĀH, released earlier this summer. Announced just days before on Instagram, the event quickly set the city alight, drawing fans who nearly filled the streets. Damso’s influence, now reaching far beyond Europe, was evident as devoted supporters from across French-speaking Canada came out in full force to celebrate the artist.
