2022 Prism Prize Eligible Video: Hildegard - Jour 2

The 2021 Prism Prize for Best Canadian Music Video was recently awarded to Theo Kapodistrias, for his clip for Haviah Mighty’s Thirteen. We will continue to profile noteworthy Canadian videos that are eligible for the 2022 prize, including this one from a new Montreal duo.

Hildegard - Jour 2 

Helena Deland and Ouri make up the Montreal-based group Hildegard. Named after the German Benedictine abbess and composer, Hildegard of Bingen, the pair have debuted a new electronic project that displays their creative connection. 

The self-titled album Hildegard focuses on the sonic sphere balancing acoustic and electronic sensitivities for listeners. When asked about the meaning behind the album the duo claimed it is “a testament to the intense and often mystical collaborative process: to losing yourself in one another only to emerge as someone new.”

Jour 2, featured on the album, focuses on the differences in darkness and mining strength in synchronicity, is self-described as “a psychedelic mantra that labours to reconcile the dissociated self by contrasting eeriness and softness.” Directed by Melissa Matos the video focuses on the duo as they discover themselves as well as one another. Visuals cut between the pair connecting through touch, light and roaming the hills of an expansive green field. Viewers say that the video reflects the melding and switching of identities explained in the song, leaving us to consider our own self-identity.
