Tate McRae Plays a Sold-Out Home Province Show in Edmonton: Canadian Concerts of the Week

In the later stretches of the summer concert season, there are many events to keep music fans busy — including Colombian rapper Ryan Castro’s first solo Vancouver show and Tate McRae's sold-out cross-country arena dates. Plus, a major Montreal electronic music festival arrives this weekend, while indie artists Mt. Joy and Lucy Dacus dominate Western Canada.

Tate McRae, Rogers Place, Edmonton — August 7; Canada Life Centre, Winnipeg — August 9
After the critical acclaim of Tate McRae's 2025 album, So Close to What — which peaked at No. 1 on the Billboard Canadian Albums chart — the Canadian pop star has leapt to pop’s A-list. Her Miss Possessive World tour kicked off on August 4 in Vancouver, and will continue a cross-country arena run — playing sold-out shows in Edmonton tonight (August 7) and Winnipeg on August 9 — the former of which is her home province of Alberta.
McRae’s chart-topping album helped cement the success of her arena tour. Growing up as a dancer, she pulled from a wide range of influences for her tour themes, including classic dance showcases. “It’s been really fun to dive into old musicals and old TV shows,” she told Billboard, “and bring out Fosse references and old Chicago references, and tap into that geeky musical side I think we all have.”
The Calgary-native currently has three hits charting on the Billboard Canadian Hot 100, including her duet with Morgan Wallen, "What I Want,” and solo tracks "Sports Car," and "Just Keep Watching," — proving there will be plenty for the Gen Z singer to draw on in her anticipated shows. After her stint in Western Canada, McRae will hit Toronto, Ottawa and Montreal in mid-late August.

Ryan Castro, Vogue Theatre, Vancouver — August 7
The Colombian rapper-singer-songwriter is kicking off his first solo world tour tonight in Vancouver. Fans can expect to hear tracks off his second album, Sendé, which hit No. 2 on Spotify’s Top Albums Global Debut after its release in May. The album’s unique Caribbean energy blends various genres into Castro’s reggaeton-leaning rhymes.

Mt. Joy, Scotiabank Saddledome, Calgary — August 9
Stomp-clap-hey music highlighted the 2010s, but American indie rock band Mt. Joy pushes towards the joyful peak of indie rock. With their blend of heartfelt lyrics and soaring melodies, the five-piece group promises a high-energy performance for those in Calgary.

ÎLESONIQ Festival, Parc Jean-Drapeau, Montréal — August 9-10
After a fun three days hosting Osheaga, Montreal’s Parc Jean-Drapeau is transforming into a playful oasis for the two-day electronic music festival ÎLESONIQ this weekend. For the 10th edition of the Evenko's fest, the urban oasis boasts a stacked lineup, including Alesso, John Summitt, Steve Aoki, Sofi Tukker, Illenium and more.

Three-time Grammy winner Lucy Dacus is bringing her heartfelt love songs from Forever Is a Feeling to the West Coast. While she isn’t ordained in Canada to marry anyone, Dacus is sure to make the two nights romantic for concertgoers.
