Charlotte Cardin is representing Canada on the global stage.

The Canadian pop singer was one of two Global Women of the Year honoured at Billboard Women in Music on Saturday (March 29) in Los Angeles.

After being named Woman of the Year at the inaugural Billboard Canada Women in Music celebration last year, the breakout artist made the trip to represent Canada in style at the flagship global event.

"Being even a tiny part of tonight just feels incredibly meaningful to me," Cardin said, accepting her award.

"Women are so inspiring, and it's still an industry that is unequal in a lot of ways, if you look at on-stage, behind-the-scenes, it's still very male-dominated," she added in her red carpet interview. "And so being able to celebrate women, and talented women, is just wonderful."

The award is fitting for a star who's bridging the Canadian music industry with international scenes, as well as the Anglophone and Francophone markets within Canada. Cardin has hit new levels both at home and abroad, winning album of the year at the 2024 Junos and charting internationally with her hit single "Confetti." Her hits continue to resonate, with her bilingual 2023 song "Feel Good" recently going viral, sparking fire in Europe and charting two years after its release on the Billboard Canadian Hot 100.

"We were proud to name Charlotte Cardin Billboard Canada's inaugural Woman of the Year, and now we're even prouder to see her represent the country on the global Women in Music stage," says Richard Trapunski, National Editor of Billboard Canada. "Charlotte's success goes beyond sold-out tours and Billboard chart numbers. She’s amassed over 200 million streams, charted in both English and French, and continues to bridge linguistic and cultural boundaries in a way few Canadian artists ever have."

Billboard Women in Music recognized Cardin as well as Italian artist ANNA as the Global Women of the Year, having been named Woman of the Year in their home countries.

Billboard Women in Music is one of the most important ways we champion the voices shaping this industry," says Mo Ghoneim, President of Billboard Canada. "Charlotte’s international recognition, most recently at Billboard Women in Music, reflects our mission at Billboard Canada — not just to celebrate Canadian talent at home but to platform it on the world stage. We’re proud to be the only media in Canada with the tools, reach and global infrastructure to do that."

Cardin reflected on the powerful female vocalists who have inspired her, like Beyoncé and, of course, Quebec icon Celine Dion.

"I'm French Canadian, so I've always had Celine tattooed on my heart," she said in her red carpet interview. She was also looking forward to seeing Gracie Abrams at the event, who was named Songwriter of the Year.

Cardin wasn't the only one repping Canada at the event — Billboard Canada Women in Music Rising Star LU KALA also walked the red carpet, bringing her star power energy to Los Angeles.
