An internationally successful pop star and a noted artist manager/entrepreneur are welcomed to the boardroom table at The Foundation Assisting Canadian Talent on Recordings.

The Foundation Assisting Canadian Talent on Recordings (FACTOR) has announced the additions of renowned Canadian artist/advocate Tegan Quin and artist manager and entrepreneur Chris Smith to its Board of Directors. The announcement was jointly made by FACTOR President and CEO Meg Symsyk, and Board Chair Steve Parsons.


“I am thrilled to have Tegan and Chris join us, bringing their invaluable expertise, diverse perspective and enthusiasm to the table,” said Symsyk. “I’ve been a colleague and admirer of both since their early days and believe their influence and continued history of success will be instrumental in driving the future ambitions of FACTOR at the board level.”

“Tegan and Chris are brilliant, welcome additions to our board,” echoed Parsons. “Their passion and energies complement our shared desire to continue ensuring FACTOR is responsive in meeting the current and coming needs of our collective music industry.”

As half of the internationally-lauded duo Tegan and Sara, Quin has sold over a million albums in the pre-streaming era, receiving seven Gold certifications, one Double-Platinum certification, three Juno awards, two Polaris Prize nominations, and a Grammy nomination. An outspoken feminist advocate for LGBTQ+ equality and gender justice, she and her sister helm The Tegan and Sara Foundation, a program for improving the lives of LGBTQ+ women and girls. She is also a Canadian ambassador for Keychange, the international movement for gender equality.

Entrepreneur and music mogul Chris Smith is the founder and leader of 21 Entertainment Creative Group, a full-service entertainment agency based in Toronto, guiding creators in diverse fields, with a client roster which ranges from musical artists and producers to celebrity chefs, fitness experts, actors and lifestyle brands. He is instrumental in the successes of multi-platinum selling recording artists, including Alessia Cara, Nelly Furtado, and Tamia. 21 Entertainment Group's creatives success stories have been continuous and global.

Caesar presented the Managers of the Year Award to his longtime managers Matthew Burnett and Jordan Evans as industry luminaries gathered to celebrate at Billboard Canada Managers to Watch x MMF Canada Honour Roll at SOUNDSTAGE at NXNE on June 11. Angine de Poitrine manager Sébastien Collin and Yungblud manager Tommas Arnby also received special awards.

The most influential managers from across the globe gathered at SOUNDSTAGE in Toronto on June 11 at NXNE to celebrate Billboard Canada Managers to Watch. The celebration spotlighted the people who put in the behind-the-scenes work to elevate artists across the country following the release of this year's coveted Managers to Watch list.

“If you want to get something done, call the manager,” said Billboard Canada national editor Richard Trapunski in his opening remarks. "You are the ones who are closest to the artists, the unsung heroes of the music industry. You have the vision and the tools to open doors and build careers, yet you are rarely in the spotlight yourselves."
