Here is this week's Nielsen Market Watch report which features Canadian music stats for the current week and YTD with comparisons to last year. This chart is published every Tuesday. The young Canadian country star's track debuts at No. 80. As holiday music fades from the charts, multiple homegrown acts are hitting a new peak including Josh Ross, Sofia Camara, Tedy and more.
Owen Riegling is finding his light on the charts.
The Canadian country singer-songwriter’s track “Taillight This Town” arrives at No. 80 on this week’s Billboard Canadian Hot 100, dated Jan. 10.
Capturing the energy of fresh starts and coming of age, the uplifting track is powered by a warm electric guitar and crashing drums that elevate Riegling’s country twang as he sings about chasing his dreams and moving forward.
“'Taillight This Town’ is a song about new beginnings, about leaving behind what’s familiar to chase something new, while still carrying the pieces of where you come from,” the Mildmay, Ontario native says. “I’m beyond excited to kick off this next chapter and share not just who I’ve grown into as an artist, but also as a person.”
Released last October, “Taillight This Town” was the singer’s first of two single releases in 2025. He shared that the track was born out of everything he experienced in the year following the release of his debut album, 2024’s Bruce County (From the Beginning). He teased the track on social media a few months after his debut LP’s release, but he took his time putting it out.
“I’ve lived a lot of life since my last release — it’s been nearly a year filled with travel, new places and incredible people,” he shared. “All of those experiences have shaped me into who I am stepping into this next chapter.”
Part of his next chapter was signing to Big Loud Records, his new U.S. label partner alongside Universal Music Canada to expand Riegling’s talent globally. “Taillight This Town” marked his first release with Big Loud.
It's a good start to the year for the budding star, who has previously charted with the songs "Old Dirt Roads" and "Moonshines."
Riegling isn't the only Canadian artist shining on the charts this week. Many long-simmering tracks have hit new peaks as holiday music fades from the charts.
Country star Josh Ross rises from No. 67 to No. 28 with “Hate How You Look,” which has also previously hit No. 1 on the Billboard Canada Country Airplay chart.
Sofia Camara’s “Girls Like You” skyrockets from 76-37, while Tedy’s “I Hope” moves up 88-52 and Jamie Fine’s “homesick” climbs 93-53. All three are new peaks for the songs.
Multiple collaborations are also rising this week, including Drake and 21 Savage’s “Mr Recoup,” climbing one spot to No. 63, Loud Luxury and Natalie Jane’s “UH OH!” hitting No. 89 and Felix Cartal and Reve’s EDM hit “Dancing in a Dream” moving up two spots to No. 97.
Now that the holiday hubbub is over, the top of the charts have recalibrated. Taylor Swift’s “The Fate of Ophelia” — which was dethroned by Mariah Carey’s "All I Want For Christmas Is You" — returns to No. 1. On the Canadian Albums chart, Swift’s The Life of a Showgirl also re-secures the top spot as Michael Bublé’s record-breaking Christmas falls to No. 8.
Morgan Wallen’s I’m The Problem climbs from No. 9 to No. 2, potentially giving Swift a run for her money as the two chart juggernauts have experienced a battle for the top spot on 2025's year-end charts.
Alex Warren re-enters the Canadian Hot 100 at No. 2 with “Ordinary," but time will tell if the emotional ballad can reclaim its almost record-breaking spot at the top.
As for chart debuts, PinkPantheress has made a big move.
The British singer nabs spot No. 92 with her track “Stateside," which is not charting in the U.S. It’s a bumping tune that zeroes in on her infectious bubblegum pop energy, a central theme of her 2025 mixtape, Fancy That. Set against a pulsing bass line, the track is a playful nod to Estelle’s 2007 hit “American Boy,” as PinkPantheress reflects on a whirlwind international romance that feels almost too good to be true.
While it’s the solo version of “Stateside” that has hit the charts, the remix version with Swedish pop star Zara Larsson has been making waves over on TikTok, which could be influencing listeners to press play.
“It explores my growth as an artist and I hope everyone enjoys it as much as me,” PinkPantheress said in a statement after the track’s release last April.
“Stateside” marks her third entry on the Billboard Canadian Hot 100, following “Illegal,” which peaked at No. 73 last year.
