Death From Above 1979
The title track from the Toronto dance-rock duo’s forthcoming album arrives at No. 28 on Mainstream Rock Airplay and No. 31 on Modern Rock Airplay on the Oct. 24-dated charts.
Death From Above 1979 are sharing their private lives with the public.
The Toronto rock duo — consisting of bassist Jesse F. Keeler and drummer and vocalist Sebastien Grainger — debuts on the Billboard Canada Mainstream Rock Airplay chart at No. 28 and the Modern Rock Airplay chart at No. 31, both on the charts dated Oct. 24.
Powered by an overdriven bass and searing drums, “Private Lives” serves as the title track from the band’s forthcoming album, out in January 2027. It’s their first full-length album since 2021’s Is 4 Lovers and part of their successful second act since reuniting in the early 2010s after first breaking up in 2006.
The track is one of 10 songs that lean on what the Keeler describes as “the true foundational sound of the band,” a "ripping rock song with maniacal riffs!” Specifically, Keeler and Grainger describe the track as “a declaration of privacy in an era of overexposure.”
Further down on Modern Rock, Vancouver rock band Hotel Mira arrives at No. 34 with “Look Alive,” and Winnipeg native Boy Golden hits No. 40 with his latest single, “Pity.”
After Tegan and Sara’s Canadian collab with Lights and Felix Cartal landed on the Oct. 10 Modern Rock Airplay chart, the track debuts on this week’s Hot Adult Contemporary chart at No. 37. On the former chart, it rises 29-24.
Naomi Sharon’s “Was It Ever Love” lands a fourth Airplay chart entry at No. 23 on the Adult Contemporary Airplay chart. The Dutch-Caribbean singer, who’s signed to Drake’s OVO Sound record label, maintains the Airplay chart momentum, climbing 34-31 on All-Format, sitting at No. 22 on the Contemporary Hit Radio/Top 40 Airplay chart and climbing 17-13 on Hot AC. Meanwhile, Rising Canada Country star Tebey arrives at No. 59 with “Chevrolaid Back.”
For the third week, Cameron Whitcomb’s “Kingdom of Fear” sits at No. 1 on All-Format. Meanwhile, Taylor Swift jumps from No. 9 to No. 1 with “Patient Zero” on AC, dethroning Zara Larsson’s “Midnight Sun.” Ariana Grande’s “Hate That I Made You Love Me” spends a second week at No. 1 on CHR/Top 40 and Tame Impala & JENNIE continue their No. 1 hot streak on Hot AC with “Dracula.”
On Country, Morgan Wallen’s “Been By Now” climbs two spots to No. 1 in its 12th week on the chart. Nickelback and John 5 notch a second week at No. 1 on Mainstream Rock with “Rattle the Cage,” and Cage the Elephant holds down the No. 1 with “Beaches In Tennessee” on Modern Rock, but Arkells might dethrone the U.S. rock band with their hit “Next Summer,” which climbs 3-2.
