The NHL announced today (June 5) that The Glorious Sons and Triumph will play a free concert this Friday (June 6) ahead of Game 2 of the Stanley Cup Final.
Rogers Festival at the Final is a free outdoor concert series held in the ICE District, in the heart of downtown Edmonton. The concerts commemorate the Stanley Cup rematch between the Edmonton Oilers and the Florida Panthers.
Multi-platinum, Juno award-winning Kingston rock band The Glorious Sons will be delivering a full headlining set in Play Alberta Fan Park ahead of the hockey game. They will be joined by Canadian rock legends Triumph, who will deliver what the NHL is billing as their first public performance in over 15 years.
One of the three songs they will be performing is their iconic 1979 hit "Lay It On The Line," which is featured in a Rogers commercial for this year's Stanley Cup Playoffs and has become a ubiquitous soundtrack for Canadian fans following the playoffs.
The track has become a rallying anthem for Canadians during the playoff season and a live performance of the song will likely keep spirits high going into Game 2, following the Oilers' comeback win during Game 1.
Hamilton rock band Arkells headlined a performance before Game 1 this year, while last year's performers included Our Lady Peace and Shania Twain. The Glorious Sons and Triumph concert kicks off at 3:40PM MT and is free of charge and open to all ages.
