Daniel Lanois
Under the deal, which covers solo and collaborative albums, 12 of the star Canadian producer and artist's catalogue titles have become available via streaming partners, including his gold-selling 1989 solo debut Acadie.
Acclaimed record producer, singer, songwriter and musician Daniel Lanois has signed an extensive and career-spanning licensing deal with Warner Records in the U.S.
The new deal sees 12 of the Canadian artist's catalogue titles now become available via streaming partners, and it marks the return of Lanois to the Warner Records roster. His lavishly praised 1989 solo debut, Acadie, was released via Opal/Warner Bros in 1989, and it remains his most popular solo work, certified Gold by Music Canada in 1991. A second solo album, 1993's For The Beauty of Wynona, also came out on Warner.
This new partnership covers a 36-year period in which the creatively prolific Lanois released 14 albums under his own name, including Acadie, For The Beauty of Wynona, Shine (2003), Rockets (2004), Belladonna (2005), Flesh And Machine (2014) and more. Some of these were first released on such labels as ANTI- and Red Floor. The joint arrangement encompasses catalogue alongside new and unreleased works to be released through 2026 and beyond.
Concurrently with this news, Lanois has released a new single with Warner, "Grace," a typically imaginative reworking of the classic folk hymn "Amazing Grace." Featured on the track are legendary vocalist Aaron Neville and drummer Brian Blade, both of whom have worked closely with Lanois before. Blade has recorded and toured extensively with Lanois, who, In his producer role, helmed the acclaimed 1989 Neville Brothers album Yellow Moon, a record that included the track, "Healing Chant," winner for best pop instrumental performance at the 1989 Grammy Awards.
Lanois is no stranger to Grammy success, having earned seven awards for his production work with such famed artists as Bob Dylan, Emmylou Harris, U2 and Neil Young. Lanois has also worked with Peter Gabriel (So, Us), Dylan (Oh Mercy, Time Out of Mind), Robbie Robertson (Robbie Robertson), Willie Nelson (Teatro), Sinead O'Connor, Hothouse Flowers, Luscious Jackson, The Killers and many more. Prominent Canadian credits include Parachute Club, Martha and the Muffins, Luba, Ron Sexsmith and, in 2025, Arcade Fire.
His production partnership with Brian Eno found multi-platinum success with U2 on such blockbuster albums as The Joshua Tree, The Unforgettable Fire, Joshua Tree, Achtung Baby, and All That You Can’t Leave Behind) and, alongside Eno, Lanois played a very important role as a pioneer in the world of ambient music via his production work with such artists as Harold Budd, Jon Hassell, Michael Brook and Roger and Brian Eno.
Some of that work was recorded in Lanois' hometown of Hamilton, Ontario, at the now internationally famous recording studio Grant Avenue, a facility that celebrates a milestone 50th anniversary this year. Daniel Lanois co-founded that studio in 1976 with his brother Bob Lanois and their childhood friend Bob Doidge, to whom Daniel sold the studio in 1985 (it remains active today).
Now 74 and a member of the Order of Canada, Lanois remains as active as ever. With his live trio, he toured Canada and the U.S. extensively last year, joined U2 on-stage for an appearance during their U2:UV residency at the Sphere in Las Vegas and reunited with friends and collaborators Emmylou Harris and Brian Blade at the Grammy Hall of Fame induction ceremony for Harris' classic 1995 album, Wrecking Ball.
