Honey Jam Celebrates At Toronto's El Mocambo

The 26th annual Honey Jam showcase, featuring a curated lineup of female artists from across Canada, including the first Yukon participant Sophie Noel, was live-streamed from Toronto’s El Mocambo Thursday night (Aug. 12) with a limited number of industry and alum invited to attend in person.


The performances ranged from a poignant message about protecting children from 12-year-old rapper DJ Love Jones, to a song of sisterhood, Drunk Girls In the Bathroom from country singer Cassidy Cummings to some “nightmare pop” from new Indica signing Carlyn.

But for president & CEO Meg Symsyk, it's not just about supporting Canadian music or even Canadian artists: it's about the sovereignty and identity of the country itself.

“Buying locally is more important than ever because of that consumer awareness and structural support. Canadians need to be encouraged to be more intentional. This last year and a half with the tariffs and the trade wars has put that on everyone's front burner,” she explains.
