Here is this week's Luminate Data Market Watch report which features Canadian music stats for the current week and YTD with comparisons to last year. This chart is published every Tuesday. The abbreviation "TEA" is a term used to describe the sale of music downloads or singles. A track equivalent album is equal to 10 tracks, or 10 songs.
The new inductees will be celebrated with an induction ceremony at Massey Hall on Sept. 26.
The Tragically Hip, Loverboy songwriters Mike Reno and Paul Dean, Feist and Roch Voisine are headed to The Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame (CSHF). All platinum-plus selling and award-winning artists, they will all become 2026 inductees.
They will receive this prestigious honour at an induction ceremony presented by Amazon Music that will take place at Massey Hall in Toronto on September 26. The evening will feature performances and tributes from Canadian and global artists paying tribute to their songbooks. Performers and guests will be announced soon.
Tickets go on sale April 29 at 10 am ET via Massey Hall.The event will also be livestreamed globally on the Amazon Music channel on Twitch for the second time, and also streamed across Canada on Prime Video.
"The Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame exists to honour the songwriters whose work has shaped our culture and defined how Canadian music is heard at home and around the world," says Nick Fedor, executive director of the CSHF.
"This year’s inductees represent that standard at the highest level. These are writers whose songs have endured, traveled, and become part of the country’s shared experience. They did not follow a template; they defined one. Their induction recognizes a body of work that continues to resonate across generations and audiences.”
The Tragically Hip have sold over 14 million albums worldwide and won 17 Juno Awards, including the Humanitarian Award at the 50th Juno Awards. They were honoured with a star on Canada’s Walk of Fame in 2002, and in 2022, recognized again for their humanitarian efforts supporting social and environmental justice.
In a statement, the band express gratitude for the honour but regret that the late Gord Downie can't be there to celebrate with them.
"We’re excited to be entering the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame and joining previous inductees, as well as this year’s, whose songs we greatly admire," they say. "It is humbling to be in their company; although it is bittersweet that our bandmate, lyricist and dear friend, Gord Downie, will not be standing with us.
Driven by the songwriting partnership of Mike Reno and Paul Dean, Loverboy were one of Canada’s most successful rock acts through major Billboard-charting hits like “Working for the Weekend” and “Turn Me Loose."At their peak, the band sold more than 15 million albums worldwide and earned a record-breaking six Juno Awards in a single year, bringing their total to nine.
“We set out to write songs that made people feel something right away, that energy, that release, that connection. To have that songwriting recognized all these years later, and to know the songs are still out there doing their job, means everything to us," say Reno and Dean, who are still actively performing.
Singer-songwriter Leslie Feist is a four-time Grammy nominee and fourteen-time Juno Award winner. Her breakthrough album The Reminder achieved multi-platinum status and included the global hit “1234,” while Metals won the Polaris Music Prize. With more than three million records sold and over one billion streams worldwide, her work continues to reach new audiences across generations, including through recent placements in the hit TV series Heated Rivalry.
“Writing songs is a way to locate myself in my own private speed of time," Feist says. "I’ve grown increasingly grateful for this ongoing conversation, mostly made of listening and attuning and preparing. I feel like a beginner every time I begin again, and am surprised and grateful for this recognition."
With a career spanning decades, Roch Voisine has built a global audience through songs such as “Hélène,” “Always Be There,” and “Darlin’,” becoming one of Canada’s most successful bilingual songwriters. His ability to move seamlessly between French and English has allowed him to connect with audiences across Canada and internationally, helping to define a uniquely cross-cultural approach to songwriting.
He was the first Canadian artist to achieve a No. 1 record in France, with “Hélène.” His catalogue spans adult contemporary ballads and pop compositions, and he has received national honours including membership in the Order of Canada, the Order of New Brunswick and the National Order of Quebec.
“ have always considered myself as a songwriter first," says Voisine. "But I was very fortunate that the public gave me the chance to sing my songs."
