Album of the Week: Comeback Kid, Trouble EP

Winnipeg quintet Comeback Kid is now a heavyweight contender on both the Canadian and international hardcore punk scenes, and brand new EP release Trouble confirms that status. The recording console was in good hands via co-producer John Paul Peters (Cancer Bats, Propagandhi) and Grammy-winning mixer and masterer Will Putney (Every Time I Die), and they capture the ferocity of the Comeback Kid sound without glossing it up. It's over 20 years since the group released debut album Turn It Around, but there has been no weakening of its sonic aggression. Andrew Neufeld’s vocals can strip paint at 10 paces, and his comrades bolster him unrelentingly. An extensive 20-date Canadian tour begins at Halifax’s Seahorse Tavern on March 20, running to April 11, with a Vancouver date to close it out.. Many shows are already sold out. Check the itinerary here and listen to the full EP via Apple Music here.

The festival has also just revealed the first artists for its 2024 edition, which also includes Stars, The Dears, Beverly Glenn-Copeland and more.

POP Montréal celebrates Lhasa de Sela almost 15 years after her disappearance.

The 2024 POP Montréal edition, which will take place from September 25 to 29, will be marked by the unique concert La Route Chante: Hommage à Lhasa. This will be held at the Rialto Theater in Mile End, the district where the American felt at home, closing the festival on September 29.
