A mid-summer release week brings some notable new releases from Canadian artists, including Oleyada andRuss Brannon. Hot off the exclusive cover story in the new Rolling Stone Quebec, deadmau5 is also back with a new release, some ep, that combines his first solo music in two years with his alter-ego Testpilot.

For Eden, meanwhile, is the second full-length from indie folk/roots songsmith Boy Golden (Liam Duncan). His debut LP, Church of Better Days, hit #1 at Canadian Alternative radio, and he has quickly become a favourite on the touring circuit. Already a Juno winner, Winnipegger Begonia turns heads with her force of nature voice, and new album Open Swim will spread the word.

This week has brought some significant announcements of new album release dates. Rush fans will be pleased to learn that the first-ever solo albums of Alex Lifeson and Geddy Lee are being reissued on Anthem Records on Aug. 9, in various formats, including a range of vinyl configurations. Lifeson’s 1996 album Victor was followed by Lee’s 2000 solo debut, My Favourite Headache. Of note: famed reissues label Rhino Records will distribute the records outside Canada.

Menno Versteeg has made a splash as frontman of indie rock faves Hollerado and a member of 'supergroup' Anyway Gang as well as founding the successful Canadian indie label Royal Mountain Records. He's just now releasing music under his own name, delivering a solo album, Strangers Like Us, on Oct. 16,while a new single featuring Doug Paisley came out this week. Expect mellow folk rather than upbeat indie rock on this one.

After two decades of work together as We Are Wolves, Montrealers Alexander Ortiz and Vincent Levesque can be considered veterans. After a few years out of the spotlight, they recently returned with two singles, "Transition" and "Súper Normal" (released this week) , and they just announced that a new album (title TBA) is headed our way on Nov. 8. WAW's propulsive sound fuses post-punk and dance-rock elements.

Renowned Toronto keyboardist-composer Sarah Davachi releases a new album, The Head As Form’d In The Crier’s Choir, on Sept. 13, as a double disc set. The seven adventurous compositions on this album form a conceptual suite, with inspirations ranging from Rilke to Monteverdi. They are fleshed out by horns and strings, while Davachi plays mellotron, electric organ, synthesizer and pipe organ.

On the roots music side, singer-songwriter/multi-instrumentalists Bella White has earned attention by signing with prestigious U.S. label Rounder Records. Her new EP, Five For Silver, arrives on Aug. 16, and is produced by renowned Grammy-nominated producer Jonathan Wilson (Father John Misty). Expect bluegrass with a twist.

Sum 41 Scores Second Alternative Airplay No. 1 This Year With ‘Dopamine’

The band's second and third No. 1s have led over two decades after its first in 2001.

After earning its first No. 1 on Billboard’s Alternative Airplay chart in over two decades earlier this year, Sum 41 scores another as “Dopamine” rises a spot to No. 1 on the Nov. 30-dated survey.

The song follows the two-week Alternative Airplay command for “Landmines” in March. The latter led 22 years, five months and three weeks after Sum 41’s first No. 1, “Fat Lip,” in August 2001, rewriting the record for the longest break between rulers for an act in the chart’s 36-year history. It shattered the previous best test of patience, held by The Killers, who waited 13 years and six months between the reigns of “When You Were Young” in 2006 and “Caution” in 2020.
