The Jonas Brothers Bring Out Alessia Cara and JP Saxe During 20th Anniversary Show at Toronto’s Rogers Centre
At their Greetings From Your Hometown show, the sibling trio brought out Saxe after his vulnerable video about cancelling his tour, as well as Cara and collaborators DNCE and star producer Marshmello.

The Jonas Brothers have mastered the art of nostalgia.
On Thursday (August 21), the brothers brought a captivating energy as they performed a bevy of greatest hits during their Greetings From Your Hometown stop in Toronto — but it didn’t come without special guests.
Their first treat for fans was Toronto singer-songwriter JP Saxe, to sing his Grammy-nominated collaboration with Julia Michaels, “If The World Was Ending.” Earlier this month, the Grammy-nominated artist had to cancel his tour due to low ticket sales, but he got his redemption at this show.
“I was scrolling late night oh my phone thinking about this tour and trying to get the show together,” said Nick Jonas. “I was struck when I came across the video of this next artist who I’ve admired for a long time, been a fan of for a long time, speak about the fact that if he wasn’t able to sell a certain number of more tickets he’d have to take his tour down.”
“It hit me — his vulnerability, his willingness to be honest and open and transparent. He’s fearless, and it was so inspiring to me,” he continued. “This is an artist who is so deserving of every accolade that he has already achieved. He’s one of the most respected songwriters in the industry, but he showed up with his father to his hometown stadium to play for 40-something thousand people here tonight. We just got to know each other but I already feel like he’s a brother to us.”
Decked out in a Blue Jays varsity jacket, Saxe proceeded to walk out on stage to a cheering crowd.
“Hello, Toronto,” he said timidly before sitting down at the piano. “I’ve been dreaming about playing in the SkyDome since I was a little kid, so if you know the words to this, please help a very nervous ginger out up here.” He launched into his biggest song, which prompted the stadium to sing along unabashedly.

Saxe’s time on-stage didn’t stop there. He joined Joe Jonas to sing the Camp Rock song “Gotta Find You,” which reignited the nostalgia for fans. In February, fans spotted the brothers at a Camp Rock film trivia event in Toronto.

During the show’s second act, Kevin Jonas revealed there was a second surprise guest.
“We definitely felt like Toronto needed something extra special,” he said, which elicited screams from the crowd.
“As a father growing to growing young women, when there is music in this world that does not tear you down, that makes you feel special, that makes you feel beautiful, shows you who you can be, I will always be here for that moment.” he said. “The minute my daughter heard this song for the first time she goes ‘I love this,’ and in my heart I knew she felt heard and seen and beautiful,” teasing the next performer.

“To this next artist, thank you for your work, your love and we are so honoured to have you on stage tonight.” They welcomed Grammy-winning artist Alessia Cara to the stage to sing her track “Scars to Your Beautiful,” off her 2015 debut album, Know-It-All. It was an empowering treat for young girls in the audience.

Of course, the setlist was filled with back-to-back bangers from the brothers, including “S.O.S,” “Lovebug,” and “Burnin’ Up. They closed out the 26-track setlist with “When You Look Me In the Eyes,” and brought their father, Kevin Jonas Sr., and younger brother, Frankie, on stage.

The group also brought up collaborators Marshmello and DNCE for the members' hits together.
The Jonas Brothers have a deep affinity for Toronto. Earlier this year, they announced a surprise show at Massey Hall, with $20 tickets — it doubled as a film shoot for their forthcoming Christmas movie.
For their 20th anniversary tour, the brothers have been pulling out the stops with special guests. At their opening night show in East Rutherford, New Jersey, the trio brought out Switchfoot, Jessie McCartney, Dean Lewis and Demi Lovato.
The brothers will return to Canada next month, performing at Vancouver’s Rogers Arena on September 18. They played the venue two years ago and brought out Toronto rock band, The Beaches.
