Canadian fans are mourning One Direction's Liam Payne. The record-breaking boy band have re-entered the Canadian charts this week, following Payne's death at age 31 on October 16.

"Night Changes," which previously spent 20 weeks on the Billboard Canadian Hot 100 and peaked at No. 21, has re-entered at No. 33. The song comes from the band's fourth album, Four, which was also their final record as a five-piece, before Zayn Malik's departure.

"Story of My Life," from the group's 2013 album Midnight Memories, is back at No. 39. The song originally peaked at No. 3 in its 29-week chart run.

Neither song is the group's biggest hit, but both are reflective and in some ways mournful, considering loss and change as time passes. Fans have been turning to those songs as they grieve Payne, a child-star they grew up alongside. YouTube comments for both songs reflect how fans are finding new meaning in them following Payne's passing.

On the Canadian Albums chart, all five of the band's studio albums have re-entered: Four is at No. 28, Midnight Memories at No. 34, their fifth album Made in the A.M. at No. 47, debut album Up All Night at No. 63, and sophomore effort Take Me Home at No. 74. Those five have re-entered the Billboard 200, too.

One Direction albums have also seen a resurgence on the U.K. Charts and a surge in sales and streams.

Also on the Canadian Hot 100, Shaboozey has held onto the top spot for a record-setting 22nd week, while ROSÉ and Bruno Mars debut at No. 2 with "APT." Tyler, The Creator notches a new entry with "Noid" at No. 57, with his album Chromakopia arriving this week.

Canadian artists are losing a bit of ground this week. Tate McRae's "It's ok I'm ok" falls 10 spots to No. 37, Devon Cole drops one spot 61-62 with "I Got You," Josh Ross' "Single Again" falls 64-67. Shawn Mendes' "Why Why Why" falls 10 spots 67-77, as does Jamie Fine's "You're Like," 81-91.

SOCAN Sues Festival d’été de Québec (FEQ) Over Licensing Fees: Report

As the Quebec City music festival started on July 3, it was hit with a lawsuit from the performing rights organization claiming it had "failed to obtain a license from SOCAN and...not paid any royalties or submitted any report forms to SOCAN.”

The Festival d’été de Québec (FEQ) is being sued by the Society of Composers, Authors and Music Publishers of Canada (SOCAN) for copyright infringement and failure to pay royalties for approximately three years, according to a report by the National Post.

SOCAN, which is responsible for granting licences and collecting royalties on licensed music in Canada, claims in the lawsuit filed in Federal Court that since at least July 2022, the festival’s organizers “have failed to obtain a license from SOCAN and have not paid any royalties or submitted any report forms to SOCAN.”
