Daniel Caesar ft. H.E.R. - "Best Part," a Visual (Directors: Keavan Yazdani & Sean Brown)

2018 Prism Prize Audience Choice winning directors Keavan Yazdani & Sean Brown make their appearance on the 2019 Prism Prize Top 20 list with another stunning visual for Daniel Caesar’s Grammy winning song “Best Part.”  The young directors have gained a name for themselves recently, and have become known for their artistic framing, camera movement, and penchant for long, lingering takes. The “Best Part” video shows Caesar and featured artist H.E.R. in a split-screen, shot both on digital and 16mm.

Directors Yazdani and Brown are frequent collaborators of Caesar’s, and have been credited with helping form his image and style, acting as art director and photographer (Yazdani) and designer (Brown), having been nominated for their work in the album artwork category at the 2018 Juno Awards. This type of all-encompassing collaboration is something we are seeing more of these days, as recording artists work closely with designers and stylists to craft their artistic vision together. Yazdani and Brown are some of the brightest artists working in this capacity today.

SZA Feels Like She’s ‘At War Because of AI,’ Slams ‘Weird, Stereotypical Struggle Music’ Being Generated By Artificial Intelligence

The singer tackled the topic on "Ghost in the Machine" from her 2022 chart-topping "SOS" album.

SZA has been raging against what she dubbed the “Ghost in the Machine” on her Billboard 200 No. 1 album SOS for years. In her case the “ghost” she was referring to on that song from her 2022 breakthrough LP was artificial intelligence, which she took on by singing, “Let’s talk about AI, robot got more heart than I/ Robot got future, I don’t/ Robot got sleep but I don’t power down.”

Now, in an interview with i.d., the Grammy-winning singer is sharpening her knives to a high sheen in what she tagged as a potentially existential crisis for Black artists in the face of the rapidly expanding use of artificial intelligence in music.
