Game of Thrones 8 sets Canadian viewership record

The first episode of Game of Throne’s final season broke ‘Specialty’ and ‘Pay TV’ records in Canada with 2.9 million views across Crave’s linear, on demand, and streaming platforms. Separately, Crave’s on-demand TV platform attracted a whopping preliminary audience average of 2.1 million viewers, according to Bell Media stats.


Evanov’s Carmela Laurignano to be honoured at CMW

Evanov Radio Group (ERG) VP Carmela Laurignano is the 2019 Rosalie Award recipient and will be recognized for her achievements at the Canadian Music and Broadcast Industry Awards on May 9 at Toronto's Rebel Entertainment Complex.

The Award, established in 2005 and named after broadcasting icon Rosalie Trombley, recognizes Canadian women who have blazed new trails in radio. The trophy is supported by CBC and Slaight Music, and Direct Media Sales.

Laurignano, a board member and part owner of four of Evanov’s radio properties, started her broadcasting career in sales at CHIN Radio where she would become one of the youngest Vice-Presidents in the Canadian radio industry.

Laurignano joined Evanov in 1993 where she has helped to administer ERG’s $10 million+ in CCD funds, introduced an internship program at and helped set up four separate ERG broadcasting endowments at universities and broadcasting schools.

Outside of ERG, she serves as Secretary of the CAB Board of Directors and is also involved with not-for-profit organizations, supporting community programs and partnership initiatives between business and organizations.

In 2011, she received the Trailblazer Canadian Women in Communications Leadership Award.

N.L. radio station rakes in revenue from ads it never aired

Various federal government departments and agencies, along with Walmart and Ford paid Labrador francophone network FM 97.3 FM for advertising over the past four years; however, Radio communautaire du Labrador, more commonly known as Rafale FM, allegedly hasn't produced any local programming since 2015, according to several sources contacted by CBC News.  The pubcaster says that ad agencies, their clients and federal departments are now on the hunt for answers. – Patrick Butler and Marie Isabelle Rochon, CBC News

LA’s KLOS FM turns 50 and sells for US$43M

As radio station KLOS 95.5/FM, station owners Cumulus Media Inc. said Monday that it had entered an agreement to sell the station to Meruelo Media for US43M in cash. Meruelo Group now has six broadcast stations in Los Angeles including KPWR “Power 106” 105.9/FM, KDAY 93.5/FM in Redondo Beach, KDEY 93.5FM in Ontario, KWHY-TV and KBEH-TV. – Various

Waveland Canada Makes Music Accessible to Vulnerable People with New Series, Noteworthy

Noteworthy launches on September 18 with a concert by Canadian jazz-soul artist Jennarie at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) in Toronto.

Live music is something that's often taken for granted. For many of the country's most vulnerable people, concerts, and all of their proven mental and physical health benefits, can be inaccessible or rare. That's something music nonprofit Waveland Canada is looking to change.

The organization (a subsidiary of Billboard Canada publisher Arts House Media Group) is launching a new program this week called Noteworthy. The initiative is designed to bring intimate music performances to isolated communities across Canada, like homeless shelters, hospices, long-term hospital stays and more.
