New & Upcoming Canadian Albums: Singer-Songwriter Kathleen Edwards Delivers 'Billionaire'

As the summer winds down, Canadian artists are putting out big albums.

It's a diverse list this week. Rootsy singer-songwriter Kathleen Edwards releases Billionaire, veteran hard rock hitmakers Three Days Grace put out Alienation, indie slacker rock star Mac DeMarco releases the new album Guitar, and global star Karan Aujla drops the keenly-awaited P-Pop Culture.


Others with new music out include blues duo Chambers Deslauriers, with Our Time To Ride, highly-touted R&B/pop artist Chrissy Spratt, with Maybe Next Time, folk singer-songwriter Ellen Braun, with her album debut, The Doldrums, and Montreal ska-punk favourites The Planet Smashers, with On The Dancefloor, their 10th album.

Those recently announcing upcoming album release dates include indie rockers The Strumbellas, with Burning Bridges Into Dust, (coming Oct. 24), synth-pop outfit Purity Ring, with a self-titled effort (Sept. 26), adventurous Guelph duo SHEBAD, with Music is the Answer (Stripped) (Nov. 1), Toronto folk rockers The Young Novelists, with These Dark Canyons (September 26), and veteran folk singer-songwriter Jory Nash, with his 10th studio album, The Light Still Shines On The Main (Oct. 24).

The Jonas Brothers Bring Out Alessia Cara and JP Saxe During 20th Anniversary Show at Toronto’s Rogers Centre

At their Greetings From Your Hometown show, the sibling trio brought out Saxe after his vulnerable video about cancelling his tour, as well as Cara and collaborators DNCE and star producer Marshmello.

The Jonas Brothers have mastered the art of nostalgia.

On Thursday (August 21), the brothers brought a captivating energy as they performed a bevy of greatest hits during their Greetings From Your Hometown stop in Toronto — but it didn’t come without special guests.
