Haviah Mighty: In Women Colour

By Kerry Doole

Haviah Mighty - "In Women Colour" (Independent): The Toronto-via-Brampton artist/rapper/producer is readying the release of her new May 10 full-length album, 13th Floor that's teased with advance singles "Waves" (feat. Sean Leon) and "In Women Colour." The latter track, co-produced with Obuxum, and released on International Women’s Day,  illustrates why the industry is now paying Mighty deserved attention.

On this fierce sounding cut, she spits out rapid-fire rhymes with a conviction that is abetted by lyrics that dig deeper than those of most male peers.

13th Floor, the follow-up to Mighty's acclaimed 2017 album, Flower City, is co-produced with Tim ‘2oolman’ Hill (of A Tribe Called Red) and includes collaborations with numerous artists that include Sean Leon, Clairmont The Second, and her sister, Omega Mighty. Production credits include 2oolman, Obuxum, Robotaki, Young Dreadz, Taabu, Lambo and her younger brother, Mighty Prynce.

J. Cole Reveals Kendrick Lamar Had Two Features on Early Version of ‘The Fall-Off’: ‘Somebody Leaked It’

What could have been...

J. Cole pulled up on Cam’ron’s Talk With Flee this week, where he revealed that Kendrick Lamar originally had a pair of features on an earlier version of The Fall-Off. Unfortunately, Cole pivoted after the tracks were leaked.

“I had The Fall-Off finished. I probably had to tweak a couple of mixes,” Cole said. “At that time, I had been working on The Fall-Off, which was done, and by the way, somebody leaked it. I know who leaked it — it’s cool he put it out there. [Kendrick] was on two joints.”
