A Who's Who of the Canadian independent music scene gather in Toronto June 11 at the Phoenix Concert Theatre for the fourth annual CIMA Celebration & Awards Gala, presented by the Canadian Independent Music Association.


The event will be hosted by Grand Analog frontman, DJ, actor and CBC After Dark radio personality, Odario Williams. Guest performers who will be paying tribute to this year's award recipients are “Leave Me Right” country singer Ryan Langdon, jazz pianist Taurey Butler, Stephen Stanley Band’s Stephen Stanley, Romantic Dogs' Sam Cash with The Launch (season 1) contender Basil Phoenix, and Skin&Earth star Lights.

Unlike most award galas, the CIMA gala announces honourees in four of the five categories.

2018 Award Honourees: 

  • Builder Award: Jim West, Justin Time Records (Montreal) - Presented by Bell Media

  • Brian Chater Industry Award: Sandy Pandya, Pandyamonium (Toronto) – Presented by Merlin

  • Entrepreneur Award: Chris Taylor, Entertainment One (Toronto) - Presented by Gowling WLG

  • Unsung Hero Award: Dave Bookman, Indie88 (Toronto) - Presented by Slaight Music

The fifth category is the Marketing Award with the winner announced at the Phoenix on the 11th of June. Contenders in the category are:

  • Arts & Crafts for Broken Social Scene’s Hug of Thunder

  • Cadence Music for Headstone’s Little Army

  • Six Shooter Records for Whitehorse’s Panther in the Dollhouse
