Jessie Reyez Recognized as a 2024 TikTok Visionary Voice for Latin Heritage Month

The recognition comes hot on the heels of Reyez winning the Billboard Canada Women in Music Trailblazer Award, and positions her alongside 15 creators from the Latin community who are making their cultural mark.

Toronto's own Jessie Reyez is being highlighted among visionary Latin creators this month.

TikTok is celebrating Latin Heritage Month by recognizing 16 Visionary Voices from the Latin community who are making a cultural mark. Colombian-Canadian singer Reyez is featured on the list, alongside other influential figures like Puerto Rican singer Rauw Alejandro and Olympic gold medalist Laurie Hernandez.

The list emphasizes Reyez's multi-platinum music career and her ability to authentically connect with fans. It's that authenticity that also helped her win the inaugural Trailblazer Award at the Billboard Canada Women in Music celebration earlier in September, where she spoke about her Colombian heritage and thanked her mom for always encouraging her to be true to herself.

It's been a busy month for the artist, who also just released new single "RIDIN" with Lil Wayne. Reyez has been taking to TikTok to promote the single, sharing reflections on love and the music business with her 1.3 million TikTok followers.

As part of Latin Heritage Month, the platform is spotlighting creators on the #CasaTikTok page, as well as launching playlists guest-curated by Alejandro and Colombian singer Manuel Turizo. Applications are also open until September 30 for TikTok's #CasaTikTok community program, which offers access to webinars and educational programming.

Latin American Heritage Month takes place in Canada during the month of October. In the U.S., the month runs from September 15 to October 15, and is officially known as Hispanic Heritage Month. That coincides with the Independence Day celebrations of several Latin American countries, including Chile, Costa Rica, Mexico, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua.

The heritage months highlight the contributions of Latin Americans to Canadian and American culture, business, politics and science, which aren't always included in official educational curriculum or recognized at the national level.

Sum 41 Scores Second Alternative Airplay No. 1 This Year With ‘Dopamine’

The band's second and third No. 1s have led over two decades after its first in 2001.

After earning its first No. 1 on Billboard’s Alternative Airplay chart in over two decades earlier this year, Sum 41 scores another as “Dopamine” rises a spot to No. 1 on the Nov. 30-dated survey.

The song follows the two-week Alternative Airplay command for “Landmines” in March. The latter led 22 years, five months and three weeks after Sum 41’s first No. 1, “Fat Lip,” in August 2001, rewriting the record for the longest break between rulers for an act in the chart’s 36-year history. It shattered the previous best test of patience, held by The Killers, who waited 13 years and six months between the reigns of “When You Were Young” in 2006 and “Caution” in 2020.
