Alanis Morissette Sues Ex-Tour Manager for Fraud & Extortion: ‘Incompetent Blackmailer’
The singer claims a former tour manager is threatening to falsely report her for drug trafficking unless she pays a "ransom under the gun."
Alanis Morissette alleges in a new lawsuit that she is the victim of a “calculated blackmail campaign” orchestrated by her former tour manager.
The singer-songwriter sued Keren Urinov, an Israeli live music executive, for fraud and extortion in U.S. court on Tuesday (Sept. 1). The legal complaint, first obtained and reported by Billboard, alleges Urinov is threatening to falsely report Morissette for drug trafficking unless she’s hired as her tour director under a 15-year contract.
“Morissette will not agree to work with an incompetent blackmailer for the next 15 years or pay her a ransom under the gun,” reads the lawsuit, authored by entertainment lawyer Howard King. “She has no choice but to sue.”
Urinov, who worked as head of Israeli operations at Live Nation for nine years, was hired by Morissette in 2025 to manage the singer’s tour that summer. Trouble allegedly arose during team travel in July 2025, when the lawsuit claims Urinov was questioned at a U.K. airport for transporting a bag containing marijuana and xylazine.
According to the lawsuit, Urinov sent Morissette a “series of increasingly extortionate letters” after the tour ended. These letters allegedly threatened to tell British authorities that the drugs belonged to Morissette unless the singer granted Urinov a 15-year, full-time tour director contract with “massive compensation.”
“Morissette is not interested in employing Urinov for 15 years — not only because she is a blackmailer, but also because she was a terrible manager of the 2025 tour,” reads the lawsuit. Morissette claims that in addition to other blunders, Urinov cost the tour $70,000 with a hotel booking error.
The lawsuit says Morissette is now suing to “expose Urinov’s scheme and hold her accountable.” Morissette is seeking unspecified financial damages for Urinov’s alleged misconduct.
The law firm representing Urinov did not immediately return a request for comment on Tuesday. Urinov recently filed a legal claim of her own against Morissette in London on Aug. 19. Details of that case were not immediately available, though court records categorize it as a claim related to “media and communications.”
