For The Weeknd fans who won’t be able to catch him in Brazil next month for his one-night-only show, they’re in luck. The superstar will be livestreaming his Sept. 7 show at Estádio MorumBIS in São Paulo exclusively on his YouTube channel, he announced Wednesday (Aug. 21).

“Feast your eyes. São Paulo will be live streamed September 7th. Only on YouTube,” he wrote on Instagram while sharing a visually compelling teaser directed by YZA Voku, which previews a new song. The livestream will start at 5 p.m. PT.

Produced by Live Nation, the Brazil show comes nine months after the superstar performed in São Paulo for two nights during his After Hours Til Dawn Tour. The Weeknd (real name Abel Tesfaye) performed at Allianz Parque on Oct. 10 and 11, 2023, and he performed in Rio de Janiero’s Estádio Nilton Santos on Oct. 7.

“I’m so excited to announce that we’ll be live streaming my show from São Paulo, Brazil, so everyone around the world can be a part of this special night,” he said in a press release. “I wish I could come to every city and town on earth, but moments like this give us the chance to connect in real time at least and share that energy together, no matter where you are.”

It was previously announced that The Weeknd, who is a United Nations World Food Programme Goodwill Ambassador, will partner with the U.N. World Food Programme to contribute $1 from each ticket sold for the special São Paulo show to the XO Humanitarian Fund, which supports the organization’s response to the unprecedented global hunger crisis. He will also donate 10% of net proceeds from all merchandise sales at the event and online to the Brazilian Soul Fund of BrazilFoundation. These funds will directly support communities in Brazil affected by natural disasters and economic hardships, with a focus on helping the most vulnerable families in southern Brazil recover and rebuild their lives after the devastating floods.

Obituaries: Toronto Record Label Pioneer Bill Gilliland, Global Music Trailblazer Dan Storper of Putumayo

This week we also acknowledge the passing of Sugar Hill Records owner Barry Poss, and top U.S. booking agent Dave Shapiro and former drummer Daniel Williams, who both died in a tragic plane crash.

Bill (William) Gilliland, a Toronto record label head, producer and music entrepreneur, died on May 17, at age 88.

An official death notice called him "a visionary force in Canadian music. A true architect of the country’s music landscape, Bill’s career spanned more than four decades, shaping the sounds of generations and launching the careers of many iconic artists."

Gilliland first made a mark with Arc Records, a subsidiary of Arc Sound Company Ltd. that was established in Toronto in 1958 by Philip G. Anderson. Gilliland and Anderson co-founded Arc Records in 1959 and purchased the Precision Pressing Co. in 1961. Under the direction of Anderson, its president, and vice president Gilliland, Arc Records entered into a contract with US Hit Records and released a series of pop singles albums under the name Hit Parade (1963–64) that specialized in regional artists and tribute albums.
