The track will follow Billboard Canadian Hot 100 No. 1 hit "Drop Dead."

If fans have gotten sick with anticipation for new Olivia Rodrigo music, the pop star now has the cure. Ahead of new album You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love, Rodrigo announced Tuesday (May 19) that its second single, “The Cure,” is on its way.
Sharing a photo on Instagram of what appears to be the song’s artwork — a photo of Rodrigo (the top of her head cut off) in a pink top, her hands tangled in a knot of red cat’s cradle string that spells out the single’s title — the Grammy winner wrote that “The Cure” is her “favorite song on the album and one of my favorite songs I’ve ever made.”
“couldn’t be more excited for you guys to hear it,” Rodrigo added in her caption, noting that the track will drop on Friday (May 22), which, coincidentally, is World Goth Day.
“The Cure” is possibly a nod to the Robert Smith-led iconic goth rock band of the same name, which Rodrigo has said is one of her favorite groups. The feeling is mutual, as Smith has previously praised the High School Musical: The Musical: The Series singer and made a cameo at her Glastonbury set last year.
Rodrigo also references The Cure on You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love‘s lead single, “Drop Dead,” which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. “You know all the words to ‘Just Like Heaven,'” she sings, nodding to the band’s 1987 track of the same name that reached No. 40 on the Hot 100. “And I know why he wrote them/ Now that you’re standing right here.”
You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love is set to drop on June 12. See Rodrigo’s announcement for new single “The Cure” below.
