Ariana Grande Announces New Album ‘Petal’ About ‘Growing’ Through a ‘Challenging’ Experience

Ariana Grande‘s next era is in bloom. The pop star finally announced on Tuesday (April 28) that her eighth studio album is titled Petal, unveiling its release date and cover on social media.

The simple, elegant album artwork is a black-and-white photo of Grande in a rare instance of her wearing her hair down, brunette waves falling over her face as she smiles wide. In the caption, she revealed that Petal — which she cowrote and coproduced with longtime collaborator Ilya — will drop July 31.

According to its countdown page on Spotify, the LP will feature 12 tracks. In a release, the Grammy winner said that Petal is “something that is full of life” about “growing through the cracks of something cold and hard and challenging.”

Petal follows 2024’s Eternal Sunshine, which topped the Billboard 200 and spawned Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 hits “Yes, And?” and “We Can’t Be Friends (Wait for Your Love).” Grande is currently gearing up to go on tour in support of Petal‘s predecessor, with her first show slated for June 8. The trek will run through Sept. 1 and will close out with a run of 10 shows in London.

Though the Wicked actress had previously said that she wasn’t likely to release new music any time soon, wanting instead to focus on her acting career, she started teasing that she’d changed her mind a few weeks ago. Earlier in April, she confirmed that she was back in the studio after planting a major clue in the outgoing message of her Brighter Days hotline that said, “We’re counting down the 8s — oops! I mean, the days [until tour].”
