Billboard Canada is bringing CRi to the W Montreal for a special intimate showcase for his hometown fans.

The Quebec-born DJ and producer will play an exclusive set as part of Billboard Canada Live at the W Montreal on July 31, starting at 8 pm.

The event begins Billboard Canada's partnership with W Montreal, amplifying the hotel's commitment to music and culture while presenting a local favourite with acclaim around the world.

CRi is a staple in the Montreal scene, having collaborated with everyone from Charlotte Cardin to Half Moon Run to Klô Pelgag. He is known for his warm, synth-driven future house sound that also draws from drum and bass, indie and chillout music, a style that has brought him global recognition.

His most recent album Miracles (2023) was supported by an international tour with shows in Canada, the United States, Europe and Asia. While that album, released by the renowned Anjunadeep label, has taken him around the world, it was also directly inspired by his touring lifestyle.

“I had to create anywhere and everywhere; on the train, on a park bench, on the plane, in my hotel room and of course in my studio. The more it progressed, the less I felt the need to control my environment, the more I was attentive to it. Every little miracle that happened around me became a source of inspiration… Nightlife and the gatherings that come with it are a big part of my life (again) and I think you can feel it in my music,” he said at the time. It's there, too, in his three-song EP Hold You from 2024.

But as much as he likes to tour, he always shows out for his Montreal fans. CRi played a now-legendary set at Osheaga last year that he then released as a live album and film on YouTube.

SOCAN Sues Festival d’été de Québec (FEQ) Over Licensing Fees: Report

As the Quebec City music festival started on July 3, it was hit with a lawsuit from the performing rights organization claiming it had "failed to obtain a license from SOCAN and...not paid any royalties or submitted any report forms to SOCAN.”

The Festival d’été de Québec (FEQ) is being sued by the Society of Composers, Authors and Music Publishers of Canada (SOCAN) for copyright infringement and failure to pay royalties for approximately three years, according to a report by the National Post.

SOCAN, which is responsible for granting licences and collecting royalties on licensed music in Canada, claims in the lawsuit filed in Federal Court that since at least July 2022, the festival’s organizers “have failed to obtain a license from SOCAN and have not paid any royalties or submitted any report forms to SOCAN.”
