B.C. Duo Cold Fame Packs a Punch With 'Fight Like a Man' on the Billboard Canada Modern Rock Airplay Chart

B.C. alt-pop duo Cold Fame has hit the Billboard Canada Airplay charts.

“Fight Like a Man” debuts at No. 36 this week on the Modern Rock chart, dated July 25.

The scathing track, made by duo Jodi Pederson and Damian Anthony, is packed with gritty energy, driven by a punchy rhythm. It's filled with a heavy dose of righteous rage and emotional intensity, with a sound that recalls Paramore and Sleigh Bells.

“Fight Like a Man” finds Pederson expressing her frustration with being “followed, chased and harassed by creeps,” as she puts on social media. As the track’s title suggests, she makes it a point to call out the male ego and reject gender stereotypes.

“I’m sick of the sexism and this power some think they hold over us,” she shares on Instagram. “We are not yours to control, manipulate and torture. Fight like a man if you wanna come at me.” Pederson further explains that the track is “for everyone and anyone who has ever felt unsafe, threatened, abused, controlled, harassed or underestimated.”

A few spots up on the same chart, Arkells debut at No. 29 with “Next Summer.” The song perfectly captures the energy of the warmer weather, with an upbeat sound tailor-made for warm nights and open windows.

While it’s effortlessly high-energy, it balances the group’s pensive lyricism, similar to their chart-topping hit “Money,” with Portugal. The Man. On "Next Summer," the five-piece grapples with the uncertainty of the future, but through a hopeful lens.

“This song is a nod to the beauty and the mystery of what might lay ahead, and an appreciation of how we got to today,” shares frontman Max Kerman. “There’s a longing in the song, but it’s hopeful.”

On the All-Format chart, Dallas Smith’s “Good Times Goes” arrives at No. 44, just three weeks after it debuted on Canada Country. On that chart, it rises 35-26, hitting a new peak. Meanwhile, traditional Acadian band Salebarbes debuts at No. 28 on AC with “AÉ!”

At No. 35 on Hot Adult Contemporary (AC), Cameron Whitcomb’s “Kingdom Of Fear” debuts, further solidifying it as a song of the summer contender. This marks the earnest track’s seventh Airplay chart entry, as it currently sits on All-Format, CHR/Top 40, Country, Mainstream Rock and Modern Rock, too.

This week, Nickelback’s “Bone For The Crows” was dethroned from Mainstream Rock’s top spot by Evanescence’s “Who Will You Follow,” but the Canadian rockers have snagged a new entry on the chart with “Rattle The Cage,” featuring guitarist John 5 at No. 31. It's the newest single from the band's just-announced new album, Everything Under The Sun (out October 30 on Virgin Music Group).

Taylor Swift’s Toy Story 5 hit, “I Knew It, I Knew You” spends another week at No. 1 on All-Format. Olivia Dean continues her chart-topping AC hot streak with “So Easy (To Fall In Love),” while Olivia Rodrigo’s “Drop Dead” holds down the top spot on CHR/Top 40. Tame Impala & JENNIE maintain their first-ever No. 1 on Hot AC with “Dracula.”

On the Country chart, Luke Combs’ “Be By You” knocks Ella Langley and Morgan Wallen’s “I Can't Love You Anymore” to No. 2 and takes the top spot. For another week, indie rock veterans Death Cab For Cutie sits at No. 1 on Modern Rock with “Riptides,” followed closely by Canadian singer TALK’s “Time Machine,” which comes in at No. 2.
