The East Coast Music Awards are back after a year of controversy.

The 2025 edition of the East Coast Music Awards was surrounded by controversy over the firing of the previous East Coast Music Association CEO Blanche Israël. Several artists boycotted the association's awards show and conference and called for transparency about governance and the nomination processes. In March 2025, the trade org published a six-point action plan, and later appointed former Great Big Sea member Bob Hallett as the new Executive Director.

The show is back this year, and singer Goldie Boutilier tops the just-announced list of nominations for the 2026 East Coast Music Awards with seven. She is followed by folk singer-songwriter Daniel James McFadyen with six and roots duo Cassie and Maggie and alt-country artist Mallory Johnson with five apiece.

The 38th annual East Coast Music Awards: Festival & Conference will take place in Sydney, Nova Scotia, from May 20–24, 2026. It will include the East Coast Music Awards Gala on May 21 along with festival performances, industry programming and networking events.

Earlier this week, Boutilier received a Juno Award nomination in the breakthrough category and Cassie and Maggie were also nominated, in the traditional roots album of the year category (for Gold and Coal).

Public voting for fans' choice entertainer of the year and fans' choice video of the year begins January 28 and closes March 31. Fans can vote online at ECMA.com, where the show will also be live-streamed.
