The 2023 Canadian Country Music Association Awards (The CCMAs) were handed out over two nights in Hamilton on the weekend. The bulk of the trophies were presented at the CCMA Music Industry Gala Dinner and Awards (presented by Stingray) on Friday Sept. 18, with eight major categories then announced at the televised Awards Show (presented by TD) the following night.

The big victors this year included double winners Jade Eagleson and James Barker Band. Eagleson took home trophies for Entertainer and Male Artist of the Year, with JBB winning the Fans’ Choice award and Group or Duo of the Year. Tenille Townes made CCMA Awards history by being crowned Female Artist of the Year for the fifth consecutive year.

The most nominated artist this year, Josh Ross, had to be content with a win in the Breakthrough Artist or Group of the Year category. Other notable winners were Lindsay Ell (Single of the Year, for Right On Time) and Tim and The Glory Boys (Album of the year, for their self-titled release).

Named as 2023 Canadian Country Music Hall of Fame inductees were Brian Edwards and Jason McCoy, while Dean Brody and The Dean Brody Foundation received the prestigious 2023 Gary Slaight Music Humanitarian Award.

At the CCMA Music Industry Gala Dinner and Awards, Edmonton was announced as the 2024 CCMA Awards host city, returning to Alberta’s capital next September for the first time since back-to-back visits in 2013 and 2014. Country Music Week 2024 marks the eighth time in the city, all culminating with the 2024 CCMA Awards presented by TD at Rogers Place in Edmonton’s ICE District.

Performing at the Industry Gala Dinner were Jade Eagleson, Hunter Brothers, Kyle McKearney, Madeline Merlo, Jess Moskaluke, Griffen Palmer, and Meghan Patrick. Appearing onstage at the televised Awards event were Dean Brody, Jade Eagleson, Sam Hunt, James Barker Band, The Reklaws, Josh Ross, Dallas Smith, Tenille Townes and Train, Brett Kissel, Carolyn Dawn Johnson, Matt Lang, Tyler Joe Miller, Drake Milligan, Tyler Shaw, SACHA, Cooper Alan, Dalton Dover, High Valley, and Carly Pearce.

William Shatner To Go Where He’s Never Gone Before on Heavy Metal Album Featuring Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden Covers

The 94-year-old TV icon teased that the untitled LP will feature 35 "metal virtuosos."

Forget about second acts in American life, TV legend William Shatner is up to his fourth, maybe 10th act at this point. The 94-year-old actor best known for playing the irascible James T. Kirk on the original Star Trek series and movies, as well as police sergeant T.J. Hooker in the 1980s is boldly going where even he hasn’t gone before.

In an Instagram post on Thursday (Feb. 19), the mutli-hyphenate performer who made his musical debut in 1968 with the beyond bizarre The Transformed Man LP featuring his florid readings of The Beatles’ “Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds” and Elton John’s “Rocket Man,” announced that he’s prepping his first heavy metal album at an age where metal typically goes into your body rather than comes out.
