The World Cup is coming to a close, and it's culminating in a first-of-its-kind performance.
Justin Bieber has been added to the lineup for the first-ever World Cup Halftime Show in New Jersey, joining a star-studded lineup comprised of Shakira, Madonna, BTS and curated by Chris Martin of Coldplay. It’s set to be another massive moment for the Canadian superstar, who made headlines with his pair of instant-classic headline performances at Coachella back in April, which he recently released as a double live album.
Back in June, Bieber delivered an exclusive surprise performance for guests at the World Cup’s opening ceremony, and now he gets to close the festivities at this year’s event — which might be the most musical in its history.
Ahead of the inaugural spectacle on Sunday (July 19), FanDuel's has markets on the opening songs, as well as the total number of hits that will be played during the show.
When it comes to the World Cup, Shakira has proven herself as a go-to hitmaker, famously crafting the iconic anthem "Waka Waka (This Time for Africa)" for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, which reached No. 11 on the Canadian Hot 100. This year, the tournament tapped her once more for its official song, "Dai Dai," the melodic Afrobeats crossover with Burna Boy that's currently in the Billboard Canadian Hot 100's top 20 and topping the global charts.
Both anthems have been mainstays during their respective World Cups, and they're among the favourites for which song she'll perform first. "Dai Dai" has odds of +100, her Bizarrap collaboration "La fuerte" has odds of +340, and "Waka Waka" has odds of +650.
Global K-pop phenomenon BTS are also set to take the stage, amid their global tour for their new chart-topping album, Arirang, and some fans think the group is even releasing a new song for the occasion. Cuts from the album are clear favourites to be the first song that the group performs at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, with their Canadian top 5 hit "SWIM" and "Come Over" leading the pack, both with odds of +175 each. Previous smash hits like "Dynamite" and "Butter," which peaked at No. 2, have slightly lower odds with +1000 and +1600, respectively.
Madonna is topping the Billboard Canadian Albums chart with Confessions II, her ninth No. 1 in Canada and her first in over ten years. Two of the album's tracks are charting in Canada this week and the highest performer, "Bring Your Love" with Sabrina Carpenter, is looking like the favourite to open the Queen of Pop's co-headlining stint at the World Cup final. With odds of +100, the track could be part of another viral moment, like when Madonna made a surprise appearance at Carpenter's Coachella set to debut the track.
There's also a market for the number of songs that will be played during the event, with the odds evenly split at -110 for both over and under 8.5 songs.
