Billboard Canada will present the world premiere of true crime series ROMCON: Who the F**k is Jason Porter? at Toronto’s TIFF Lightbox on June 12.

The highly anticipated Amazon Original exposes the dark side of online dating in Toronto. Split into two parts, the series follows successful real estate broker Heather Rovet as she discovers her three-year romance with "Jace" (known as Jason Porter), was nothing but a scam.

As she uncovers his criminal past, history of romantic deception and former victims, Rovet transforms from a heartbroken lover to a determined investigator, risking everything to expose his pattern of manipulation and seek justice.

After the NXNE screening, there will be a special Q&A with Rovet, whose relationship and subsequent investigation with Porter is at the heart of the compelling narrative.

Bringing Rovet’s story to the screen are director Henry Roosevelt, executive producers Allison Brough and Toby Dormer and co-executive producer Allyson Luchak.

ROMCON: Who the F**k is Jason Porter? is a compelling narrative that reflects societal vulnerabilities in the digital age, and a fascinating portrait of Toronto’s online dating scene,” says Richard Trapunski, National Editor of Billboard Canada. “We’re excited to premiere it with Prime Video at NXNE and bring this story to light.”

ROMCON: Who the F**k is Jason Porter? will premiere at the TIFF Lightbox on June 12 at 2:30 p.m. Find more info here.

Billboard Canada will also present a screening in Montreal at Cinéma du Parc on June 16 at 5:30 p.m.

SOCAN Sues Festival d’été de Québec (FEQ) Over Licensing Fees: Report

As the Quebec City music festival started on July 3, it was hit with a lawsuit from the performing rights organization claiming it had "failed to obtain a license from SOCAN and...not paid any royalties or submitted any report forms to SOCAN.”

The Festival d’été de Québec (FEQ) is being sued by the Society of Composers, Authors and Music Publishers of Canada (SOCAN) for copyright infringement and failure to pay royalties for approximately three years, according to a report by the National Post.

SOCAN, which is responsible for granting licences and collecting royalties on licensed music in Canada, claims in the lawsuit filed in Federal Court that since at least July 2022, the festival’s organizers “have failed to obtain a license from SOCAN and have not paid any royalties or submitted any report forms to SOCAN.”
