There's plenty of events across the country to keep music fans busy this weekend, from a major electronic duo in Montreal, to aerial acrobatics in Edmonton, to Canadian country in Toronto.

Canadian Concerts of the Week

Disclosure with Hamdi, Parc Jean-Drapeau, Montreal — Saturday, August 30

It's been a decade since the U.K. dance music duo first blasted onto the scene and achieved chart hits like the Sam Smith-assisted "Latch." Ten years after their debut LP Settle, they released 2023's Alchemy — their first full-length since they completed their major-label deal, aimed less at the charts than the clubs. Alchemy was promoted as their first record with no features and no samples — all Disclosure, all the way through — and was received as a return to fun form for the duo. Their headlining set at Primavera Sound received similar praise for keeping the party going late into the night. With opener Hamdi — a U.K.-based producer who's garnered attention from Skrillex and Fred Again.. — the Piknic Electronik-promoted event is sure to be a blast.

The Reklaws with Teigen Gayse, CNE Bandshell, Toronto — Saturday, August 30

Air show planes are ripping through the sky above Toronto, which can only mean one thing — it's the final weekend of the Canadian National Exhibit. The CNE has brought a host of Canadian acts to its Bandshell stage this summer, like Canadian rockers Sloan and southern singer Brittany Howard. For one of its last concerts of the season, Canadian country duo The Reklaws will take the stage, ahead of their performance at the Canadian Country Music Association Awards in Edmonton this fall. The brother-sister team have been busy this summer, releasing the party pump-up single "One Beer Away" and playing festivals across the country. The duo already are amongst the biggest names in contemporary country north of the border, and they've been making moves into the U.S. market with appearances on the new season of America's Got Talent. Though their time on the show came to an end this week, they'll face a warm homecoming at the CNE Saturday night.

P!nk with Sheryl Crow and The Script, Commonwealth Stadium, Edmonton — Sunday, August 31

P!nk and Sheryl Crow might seem like an unusual combination, the former known for brash, in-your-face pop-rock and the latter famous for relaxed, soak-up-the-sun vibes, but their Summer Carnival Tour has been getting strong reviews, highlighting Crow's veteran confidence and P!nk's soaring performances — literally, as P!nk has become an expert at aerial gymnastics. She performs hits like "Raise Your Glass" and "So What" while tumbling through the air, surrounded by pyrotechnics and bringing the energy from start to finish. This is one long weekend show that will go out on a high note.

Crumb with Discovery Zone and L'Rain, Theatre Beanfield, Montreal — Monday, September 1

American indie band Crumb have built up a big following since their debut EP came out in 2016. The psychedelic, idiosyncratic group released their third full-length, AMAMA, this year, and will bring their jazz-inflected grooves to Montreal's Theatre Beanfield on Monday. They're touring with two of the most exciting up-and-coming acts around — Brooklyn experimentalist L'Rain, whose 2023 album I Killed Your Dog was widely acclaimed, and Berlin's Discovery Zone, whose avant-garde pop explores virtual realities and fantasies. Altogether, it's a dream lineup for indie lovers seeking out eclectic art and sharp performances, the kind of show that will help the transition to fall go down just a little bit smoother.

Our Early — But Not All That Early — 2027 Grammy Nominations Preview

Last year at this point, four of the eight albums that were later nominated for album of the year had been released and a fifth was just weeks away.

The 68th annual Grammy Awards were presented just nine days ago, so how can we already be thinking ahead to next year’s awards? Well, even though many execs who flew out to L.A. for the Grammys haven’t even filed their expense reports yet, we’re nearly halfway through the eligibility year for the 69th annual Grammy Awards – Aug. 31, 2025 through Aug. 30, 2026.

Last year at this point, four of the eight albums that were later nominated for album of the year had been released – Leon ThomasMUTT, Tyler, the Creator’s CHROMAKOPIA, Kendrick Lamar’s GNX and the eventual winner, Bad Bunny’s Debí Tirar Más Fotos. A fifth eventual nominee, Lady Gaga’s MAYHEM, was just weeks away from its March 7 release. The other three nominated albums were both released during the summer: Clipse’s Let God Sort Em Out and Justin Bieber’s Swag (both released on July 11) and Sabrina Carpenter’s Man’s Best Friend (on Aug. 29, just one day before the close of the eligibility year).
