The SOCAN Special Achievement Winners have been announced.

Today (September 8), the 35th SOCAN Awards shared the recipients in celebration of the organization’s 100th anniversary. This accolade spotlights Canada’s most accomplished songwriters, composers and music publishers — representing the breadth of talent and global influence of homegrown talent. Last year’s winners included Arkells, K’naan, Drake and Lauren Spencer Smith.

Some of this year’s honourees include Canadian icon Joni Mitchell, who has left an indelible mark on music and culture, inspiring generations with her profound artistry.

Boi-1da has helped to define the sound of rap and R&B artists locally and globally with his groundbreaking production work. His frequent collaborator, Drake, is taking home the Songwriter of the Year – Performer Award for the fourth time as one of music’s most defining voices.

Punjabi artist Shubh has emerged as one of the country’s most exciting new voices, captivating audiences worldwide and amassing billions of streams, with a rapidly growing global fan base.

Other recipients include Lowell, bülow and Nathan Ferraro, Jordan Gagne, Evan Blair, Ozan “Oz” Yildirim and Erica Procunier.

2025 award winners will receive "The SOCAN" – the world’s first and only music industry trophy that doubles as a musical instrument, incorporating five custom bronze crotales, tuned this year with notes from Mitchell’s hit "Both Sides Now.”

“This year’s honourees showcase just how influential Canadian music is, from cultural icons to global hitmakers and powerful new voices,” said Jennifer Brown, SOCAN CEO — and one of Billboard Canada's 2025 Power Players. “At a time when creators are navigating big changes in the music industry, it’s important to celebrate their achievements, and to remind them that they’re part of a strong community working with them and for them.”

The SOCAN Awards will be held on September 29 at Toronto’s Rebel venue, with winners in various categories announced during the event.

Following the Montreal band’s 2005 song “I’ll Believe in Anything” landing a key soundtrack moment on the hit Canadian hockey romance, the group are set to reissue the album it comes from, Apologies to the Queen Mary. That is the band's critically acclaimed debut album, released on Sub Pop.
