Tate McRae Confirms That She’s Working on New Music: ‘Girls, I’m in the Studio’
In a new interview with Harper’s Bazaar, the Canadian pop star shuts down comments that say “[she’s] everywhere but the damn studio” by hinting at new music.

Tate McRae has confirmed what many had been suspecting as she's teased a new era: she's working on new music.
Following two buzzy headlining festival performances at Montreal’s Osheaga and Lollapalooza in Chicago earlier this month, the Canadian pop singer has revealed that she’s in the studio.
In a new interview with Harper’s Bazaar, McRae addresses comments about the status of new material. “I always get comments like ‘[She’s] everywhere but the damn studio,’ and I'm like, ‘Girls, I’m in the studio,’” she tells the publication.
She doubles down, wrapping up the interview by sharing that she’ll be heading to the studio afterwards.

During the conversation, McRae talks about her first-ever Calvin Klein campaign. She reveals that she only had 20 minutes to learn the movements with choreographer Sergio Reis for the Carlijn Jacobs-directed campaign video. In the 30-second clip, the homegrown hitmaker can be seen twisting, stretching and contorting her body — she even sports a Canadian tuxedo at one point.
Describing it as “spontaneity and high-pressure situations where you have to be put on the spot and figure out what looks best in the space,” McRae explained it’s “her favourite type of energy.”
McRae went on to explain that her on-stage attire needs to be practical for her athletic-like choreography. “I’m usually ultra-specific in what I can wear as a dancer,” she said. “I need to feel free, I need to feel comfortable.” During her recent Osheaga set, she wore multiple two-piece sets that matched her on-stage flow. Yes, even during her gold-dipped finale.
The hitmaker’s choreography has earned McRae recognition in the entertainment industry. Recently, her 2025 VMA "Sports Car" and "Revolving Door" medley performance was nominated for outstanding choreography for variety or reality programming at this year’s Emmys — the first VMA performance to be recognized since Michael Jackson's 1995 medley.

It’s been just over a year and a half since the release of McRae’s chart-topping So Close to What, an album that brought the singer to great heights in her career, levelling her up to main pop girl status. It was her first No. 1 album in her home country and the U.S., with a bevvy of hits including “Sports Car,” “Revolving Door” and “2 Hands,” all of which cracked the top 25 on the Billboard Canadian Hot 100.
