Tate McRae Teases New Era Ahead of Osheaga Headline Performance
The Canadian pop star debuted a new visual identity and photoshoot with posts on social media and posters in Chicago, ahead of her major headline performances at Osheaga in Montreal on Saturday (Aug. 1) and Lollapalooza in Chicago on Sunday (Aug. 2).
Tate McRae is teasing something new.
The Canadian pop star debuted a new look and photoshoot on Instagram yesterday (July 26), posting a series of portraits showing her dolled up in front of a white background with her name spelled out in a new typeface. "Montreal. Chicago. See u soon," she captioned the post, in anticipation of her imminent headline sets at two major North American music festivals, Montreal's Osheaga and Chicago's Lollapalooza on Saturday (Aug. 1) and Sunday (Aug. 2), respectively.
She also doubled down by referencing both festivals in a new series of posters that appeared yesterday in Chicago, which resemble a mechanical drawing and show McRae doing four different poses. Along with sketched lines and circles, the dates for both Osheaga and Lollapalooza, "8 01 26" and ""8 02 26," are written on the lefthand side. There's also a "10 1" noted on the poster, which has created fan speculation that music could potentially be releasing in October.
The new look and font are significantly different from the glamorous visuals for her last album So Close to What and the bold text that decorated her Miss Possessive tour branding, which has led fans to think that the Canadian hitmaker is giving a first look at what her next musical chapter (or "era") might look like. McRae also leaned into the heavenly look by posting a video from the photoshoot on TikTok captioned "Hi I'm Tate McRae and ur watching Disney channel," which is soundtracked by a harp and angelic choir vocals.
With a new era seemingly imminent, McRae's festival appearances are set to cap off the biggest year of her career thus far. In Feb. 2025, she earned her first chart-topping album with So Close to What, which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Canadian Albums chart and the Billboard 200, later returning to No. 2 off the back of its deluxe edition. Last year, she ranked as the top-charting Canadian artist on Billboard Canada's Year-End Top Artists chart, landing above Drake and The Weeknd, and her sold-out Miss Possessive tour was a career best, grossing nearly $111 million and selling over one million tickets, including headlining gigs at Lollapalooza Brazil and Argentina.
This year, she received the Hitmaker Award at Billboard Women in Music 2026 in Los Angeles and presented the ball during a 2026 World Cup game, plus her 2025 VMA performance earned an Emmy nod. Now, she's gearing up to play the biggest stages of her career in her home country and continent, and it's looking like she could surprise her supporters with something new.
