Warner Music Canada has bolstered its A&R team with the addition of Jeffrey “LordQuest” Nuamah whose backstory includes 15 years of production, songwriting, recording and mixing.

Under the moniker LordQuest, he has written songs with Kelly Rowland (Don’t You Worry and Diamonds) and SiR, and co-produced and co-written more than 50 titles with Arin Ray (ZZZ, Interscope), Schoolboy (Oxymoron, Top Dawg/Interscope), Ruben Young (Dreamstate), Maestro (Gladiator, Dearly Departed ft. Kardinal Offishall, and The Conversation) Juice Wrld (Run/Interscope) and others.

Nuamah joins A&R VP Ron Lopata, Kelly Anglin and Victor Mijares in the department that oversees a roster of almost 30 homegrown acts that includes Billy Talent, Blue Rodeo, Paul Brandt, Courage My Love, Matthew Good, Brett Kissel, Meghan Patrick, The Sheepdogs, Ron Sexsmith, Scott Helman, and The Washboard Union. Recent signings include LB Spiffy, Just John, and Myles Castello.

Of his new position, Nuamah says, “I’m excited to be joining the Warner family and to embark on this new chapter.  I’m looking forward to working with this great team to discover and showcase the amazing talent Canada has to offer.”

Warner Music Canada President Steve Kane offers back: “We are honoured to have Quest join the team here.  We have long been fans of his depth of knowledge, passion for music and his championing of artists that he’s worked with, and are looking forward to discovering new artists that he will bring us.”

With the pledge by many orgs in Canada's music industry to make job creation more heterogeneous, it's worth noting that his appointment marks the third person of colour to join the A&R major leagues with Craig 'Big C' Mannix starring as Manager of Talent Acquisitions and Scouting at Sony Music, and Kardinal Offishall holding the title of Creative Executive Director with UMC. Separately, Vivian Barclay has served as Director and GM for Warner Chappell Music’s Canadian division for the past 19 years.

The new agreement, announced in the early morning, addresses "key changes in several critical areas," Grainge said in outlining what UMG achieved in negotiations.

Universal Music Group chairman/CEO Lucian Grainge penned a memo to staff, obtained by Billboard, about the music company’s new licensing agreement with TikTok that ended a three-month standoff between the two entities, saying the deal ended with “a decidedly positive outcome,” with TikTok agreeing “to key changes in several critical areas.”

The announcement of the new deal, which came after a high-profile dispute between the world’s largest music company and one of the current premier social media platforms in the world that first erupted in late January, was announced early this morning (May 2). The agreement will see UMG’s millions of compositions and songs, both from its recorded divisions and its publishing company, return to the platform “in due course.” The feud has been one of the biggest talking points in the music business for the better part of this year, with artists and songwriters caught in the middle of the corporate standoff and looking for alternate ways to promote and market their music beyond the parameters of TikTok.
