The winners of the 2019 Western Canadian Music Artistic Awards were named yesterday (Oct. 3) at the WCMAwards Reception held at the Kwanlin Dün Cultural Centre in Whitehorse, YT, during BreakOut West. The only double winner was Dan Mangan, honoured as Rock Artist and Songwriter of the Year. See a full list of the winners below.


The Industry Award winners will be honoured at a brunch on Saturday (Oct. 5).

BreakOut West is now in full swing. Here are some stats provided by the conference/festival:

BreakOut West reached gender parity for the second year in a row – over 50% female-fronted artists and 57% with gender representation in their ensemble

A look at the list of BoW attendees reveals some heavy industry hitters from Canada, the US and beyond. Mac DeMarco Shares Another Secret Album, ‘Seven Off the Two,’ On CD-R at Cross-Canada Tour

The album surfaced after his show in Moncton, New Brunswick and has since been uploaded to SoundCloud. It follows the surprise release of Dog on the Rock in November, which was later uploaded to YouTube.

Mac DeMarco has released his third album of 2025.

The indie singer-songwriter is in the midst of wrapping up the Canadian leg of his tour in support of his recent album, Guitar, released in August via his own label, Mac's Record Label. At a show last week in Moncton, New Brunswick, DeMarco handed out CD-R copies of Seven Off the Two to fans at the barricade.
